May 12th, 2010

(Kirkland, WA)- Washington Crossfire will make their long awaited franchise debut on Saturday, May 14th, against Portland Timbers U-23 at PGE Park. Formally Seattle Wolves FC, battle commenced between these two clubs twice last year.

Both times, the Seattle franchise came out on top by a score of 3-2 with a hat trick by Casey Cunningham in the regular season, and a franchise defining hat trick by Alex Chursky in the first round of the Northwest Division PDL playoffs at PGE Park.

Chursky, amongst others, will make the trip south this weekend to face a new look Timbers squad, as they prepare for their MLS 2011 debut with their pro squad. Washington Crossfire also sports a few new faces, particularly former Seattle Sounder Kevin Forrest, who led the Sounders to a 1-0 US Open Cup victory over his former club, the Colorado Rapids in the 2009 regular season. Forrest will also see a few familiar faces in Portland as well, after spending a bit of time with the USL-1 squad in the latter stages of their 2009 campaign.

The season opener promises to be an exciting contest, with US Open Cup qualifier points on the line.
