A stop and chat with Kasey Keller (interview transcript)

(Spirits seem high) “The difference a week can make is tremendous, but it can be equally down if we don’t continue to concentrate on what we improved on at the weekend to get the victory. That’s that fine balance, to have a good time but also to be serious enough to get the work done. It’s about picking your times to have that fun. I think today was a good example. I think the guys worked hard, but then at times you have to enjoy what you’re doing.”

(On not being called upon much in the NY game) “It was great. That’s my favorite game to have, is when you take maybe a couple crosses, a couple through-balls and a save or two. Because those are the games you win. More often, if your goalkeeper’s busy, you’re not winning games. I think we played a lot of games last year where I was called similarly to this last game against New York, and we either won or drew 0-0. That’s what we need to strive to. Guys making tackles. Guys stepping tight to people and clearing balls when they need to be cleared. That wins you games.”

(On CCL draw) “Right now I just want to win a couple games at home and continue to push up the table. When that game comes we’ll think about it then. I didn’t even know there was a draw today. It meant that little at this point in the season.”

(On Heritage Cup) “We need to win this game because we’ve gone a couple games now at home without winning, regardless of the Heritage Cup, or San Jose, or whoever we’re playing. Our last home game was the worst home game in the history of this franchise and we want to put that right more than anything else.”
