Local filmmakers produce incredible documentary on soccer in Argentina, public viewings next week

I had the opportunity to watch the documentary “Argentina Futbol Club” the other night down in Fremont. The film was produced by Gavin Sullivan and Ben Meyerson, a couple local guys who have spent three years on the product.

The work paid off. The film is entertaining and informative. A must-see for lovers of the beautiful game in my opinion. Be sure to seek this one out if you can, you’ll be happy you did, especially with Boca Juniors coming to town. Below is the press release from the filmmakers on schedule public viewings and more.

ARGENTINA FUTBOL CLUB

“More than a game, it’s a story of culture, a history of soccer, and a lifetime of loyalty.”

Azzurri Vino Bar, 223 N 36th St. — Monday May 24th and Tuesday 25th at 7:00 p.m.

Seattle-based AiO Media, with the support of Azzurri’s Vino Bar, are presenting a special North American premiere screening of Argentina Futbol Club, a new documentary that examines the unique identity and relationship between Argentines and their beloved Futbol Clubs: Boca Juniors and River Plate.

With its unprecedented interviews, cultural insight, and historical approach to understanding the phenomenon that is futbol, this documentary will excite sports fans and intrigue curious individuals alike. The screening comes one week prior to the May 26 Sounders “Friendly” match against legendary Argentine Club Boca Juniors at Qwest Field, and two weeks prior to the World Cup in South Africa.

Argentina Futbol Club was directed by acclaimed Argentine Director Juan Pablo Roubio, and is a co-production between Argentina-based Indigo Art Media (indigoartmedia.com.ar) and US-based AiO Media (aiomedia.com), which was founded by Gavin P. Sullivan and Ben Meyerson.

Attendees will have the opportunity for a short discussion with both Sullivan, who co-wrote Argentina Futbol Club, and Meyerson after the film.

Argentina Futbol Club premiered earlier this year at the 31st International Festival of New Latin American Cinema in La Habana, Cuba and will compete at the Cinesul Film Festival in Rio de Janiero, and the Molodist Kiev International Film Festival in July and October, respectively.
