Toronto FC Forward Dwayne De Rosario Named MLS Player of the Week
De Rosario scores two in Toronto Fs 3-1 win over San Jose Earthquakes
NEW YORK (Monday, May 31, 2010) — Toronto FC forward Dwayne De Rosario was voted Major League Soccer Player of the Week by the North American Soccer Reporters (NASR) for Week 10 of the 2010 MLS season. De Rosario supplied two goals for Toronto in the teams 3-1 victory over the San Jose Earthquakes Saturday at Buck Shaw Stadium.
The Toronto captain came off of the bench in the second half and produced two goals in the Re three-goal effort. In the 66th minute, De Rosario sprinted to the top of the box for a ball chipped behind the defense by teammate Dan Gargan. De Rosario placed the ball past Earthquakes goalkeeper Joe Cannon racing off his line to cut down the angle.
For his second goal of the evening, De Rosario ran down a ball cleared out of the back by Nick LaBrocca during second half stoppage time, and tapped the ball into an empty net from just eight yards out.
This is De Rosarios second Player of the Week honor this season and his sixth through his career: 200 Week 26; 200 Week 26; 200 Week 6; 200 Week 5; 2010 Week 5 & 10.
The MLS Player of the Week is selected each week of the regular season by a panel of journalists from NASR. The group consists of members of print, television, radio and online media. More information and membership information can be found at http://www.soccerreporters.com/.
