Sounders FC

Daily coverage of Seattle Sounders FC, MLS and world soccer.

June 5, 2010 at 6:59 PM

FINAL: Sounders FC 3, New England Revolution 0, game thread

FINAL: Dominant showing for the home side in this one. Getting the three points against D.C. next week will certainly be nice before the W.C. break.

90+’: Taylor Graham in for Leo Gonzalez, who gets a hero’s cheer.

90′: Two minutes of added time.

88′: Nyassi in for Ljungberg.

83′: Marshall goes down to the pitch awkwardly. Grabs his hamstring it looked like.

81′: Levesque on for Noonan. First Sounders sub.

79′: Who is your player of the game? Give my vote to Leo Gonzalez, who got the party started with the fifth-minute goal and also assisted on Montero’s.

72′: Ianni looks like he took a Joseph forearm to the face. Looks like he’s bleeding, but that’s the only attack N.E. has mustered tonight.

59′: Boggs on for Nyassi for the Revolution. On the other end, Montero is absolutely wrestled down in the penalty box, but there’s no call. Two points for the take down there, but the Seattle fans were not amused.

55′: Apologies for the lack of updates, but I’m trying to get a head start on my game story. Seattle continues to attack despite the 3-0 lead and I wouldn’t be surprised if they get another one or two goals.

46′: Phelan and Mansally out for N.E. Osei and Jankauskas in. No subs for Seattle.

Halftime: Sounders take a 3-0 lead into the break. What a half for the guys in green.

44′: That’s the first time Seattle has scored three goals in a half of a Major League Soccer game. Also the first three-goal game of the season.

42′: GOAL SEATTLE! Fredy Montero with a fake then fires a low, hard shot past Shuttleworth. Assists to Noonan and Gonzalez.

41′: Look at Ljungberg go! Great pace from the Swede on the right side. Swings in a cross to Noonan and earns a corner.

36′: Booking for Leo for a challenge on Nyassi.

32′: POST! Pat Noonan weaves through a couple defenders and slams a shot off the frame.

28′: Montero with a free kick just over the bar. The way Seattle is playing, you’d think it was a first-place team.

24′: GOAL SOUNDERS! Zakuani with a beautiful volley off the crossbar. Evans had flicked a Montero throw-in backward to the left winger. Two-goal deficit will be tough for the visitors to overcome.

22′: Seattle could be up 2-0 or 3-0 right now. The goal is nice, but will the other missed opportunities be costly?

17′: Sounders in complete control as Zakuani gets another dangerous shot, but sends it over. This has been domination so far.

15′: Ljungberg sets up a Evans shot, but it’s right at Shuttleworth.

12′: SAVE! Gonzalez puts Zakuani through on goal, but the breakaway shot is blocked by Shuttleworth.

7′: NE goalkeeper Shuttleworth can’t handle a back pass and it’s out for a corner. Would’ve been a goal if it were on target.

5′: GOAL SEATTLE! Leo Gonzalez absolutely unloads on a beautiful strike from the left side. Assist to Zakuani, albeit on a bad touch.

4′: Great cross from Ljungberg, but Zakuani can’t get to bit… barely. Montero also shanks a shot moments later. Seattle in control early.

3′: Ianni tracking Shalrie Joseph to start. Early caution to Cory Gibbs for a crunching tackle on Montero.

2′: Sounders look to be in a bit more of a 4-4-2 or something like this:

—————–Keller—————–

Riley–Parke–Marshall–Gonzalez

——————Ianni—————–

–Ljungberg—Evans—Zakuani–

———-Noonan-Montero———-

1′: And we’re off!

Pregame: I predicted a 1-1 draw in my preview post, but most people up in the pressbox see a Sounders win. What do you think? Seattle has to be due sometime…

Pregame: Teams warming up now as we’re about 15 minutes from kickoff. Looks like New England could be in all-white uniforms. I expect Seattle to be in green-blue-green.

No sign of electricity yellow.
