Got a second chance to watch incoming Sounders FC forward Blaise Nkufo in action with the Swiss national team this morning in a 1-0 loss to Chile. He played 68 minutes before being subbed off.
Here’s what I saw:
— He definitely gets the Seattle Sounders in the broadcast. I wonder if ESPN gives the announcers an extra reminder before going on air. He also gets a lot of camera time.
— He’s got decent touch on the ball. That’s something that I wasn’t able to notice in the opener in the limited times he had possession. Against Chile he had some decent passes and nearly another assist.
— He’s a clear target in the penalty box on set pieces. It seemed like all the crosses on free kicks and corner kicks were headed his way. That will help Seattle, a team that gets a lot of each.
— He’s not afraid to spout off to the refs. He surely did a couple times this morning. On the other hand, he was the one that helped reel in some emotional teammates when the game got chippy.
— Can he finish? It would’ve been interesting to see how he would’ve handled that wide-open chance that his replacement Derdiyok had to tie the game at the end.
What did you see…?
