LIVE: Sounders FC v. Portland Timbers, game thread

Final: Sounders win the shootout 4-3 and the game 2-1. Keller with two saves.

End of extra time: We’re onto penalties. Due to deadline duties, this might be the last update for a while.

110′: Sounders leaving one man up front and defending with the other eight. Possibly playing for the shootout a man down and with the experience Keller in the net. A little curious, considering Seattle is 0-for-3 from the spot.

105′: That’s the end of the first 15 minutes. They’ll switch sides and start again.

104′: Brave save by Keller who comes off his line to collide with the 200+ pound Dike in front of the goal.

102′: Dangerous free kick is blocked by the wall. Ianni has come on for Seamon to play centerback.

101′: Second yellow card given to Graham. He’s sent off! Was it for the foul on Dike or putting his hands on the ref afterward?

100′: Zakuani goes on a long run after Wahl wins the ball but his shot is blocked.

99′: Sounders appear to be controlling things in added time. Riley blasts a shot from way out that troubles Cronin, but he controls it.

95′: Who’s going to be the hero?

End of regulation: This one can’t be settled in 90 minutes. We’re on to 30 minutes of overtime, penalty kicks to follow if there’s no winner after that.

90′: Two minutes of stoppage time. Free kick by Montero, shot from about 30 yards out right at Cronin.

88′: A highlight-reel sliding tackle by Taylor Graham stones a Dike breakaway and saves the Sounders.

83′: Looks like we could be headed to overtime. In that case, they’d play a full 30-minute overtime with two 15-minute. No golden goal, so they play it all before penalties.

74′: Portland sub Rodrigo Lopez has an open net 40 yards ahead of him after Keller comes out, but he launches it over the target.

70′: PGE Park attendance: 15,422. It’s a sellout and Portland’s largest crowd of the year.

Also, Zakuani is in for Montano.

65′: Montero on for Jaqua.

57′: Cronin’s out of his net! But Nyassi can’t direct a shot on goal. Definitely a moment for the guys in yellow there.

53′: Portland still on the front foot on this one. Not sure if it’s a matter of them picking up their play, or the Sounders letting down.

46′: And we’re off in the second half. No subs for Seattle. Not sure for Portland.

Halftime: Timbers have actually outshot the Sounders 8-6 (scoreboard said 9-5, official stats say 8-6) and have probably been the better team as a whole. Portland really controlled the end of the half after a strong start by the visitors.

38′: GOAL PORTLAND. Bright Dike collects a pass from Ryan Pore, earns some space in the Sounders FC penalty box, and fires a shot past Keller. It’s 1-1 now.

37′: Definitely a physical match so far. Seattle’s Riley and Portland’s Suzuki were booked earlier. Several Sounders have suffered hard tackles. Can’t expect anything less in a rivalry game.

28′: Up and down game here. The fast turf might have something to do with that, but both teams are definitely playing offensive-minded soccer.

21′: Seattle looking much better tonight. Certainly a nice midweek distraction after the loss Sunday at Philadelphia. The young combination of Seamon, Montano and Nyassi look solid.

13′: GOAL SEATTLE! Miguel Montano’s cross on the left side was too far, but sent back into the middle by Sanna Nyassi to Nate Jaqua, who heads it in from a couple yards out. 1-0 Sounders FC.

7′: Shot on goal by Portland’s Bright Dike, a first-round pick this year in the SuperDraft that didn’t pan out. He looks very dangerous and has been on a hot streak for the Timbers.

5′: Sounders look sharp tonight. Montano had a great bit of skill to beat two defenders, but his shot was blocked. I expect a handful of goals in this one.

1′: And we’re off! Here what Seattle looks like for now.

————-Keller—————

Riley–Graham–Scott–Wahl

————-Sturgis————-

Nyassi—-Seamon—Montano

——-Levesque-Jaqua———

Pregame: Just about ready for the national anthem. Surprised to see Keller starting? How about the reserves?

Pregame: Great atmosphere here at PGE Park. We’re just a couple minutes from the walkout and the Sounders FC will indeed be in electricity yellow.

The crowd is into in. We should have a very entertaining match.

Be sure to check out the starting lineups in the post below if you haven’t already.
