Sounders FC coach Sigi Schmid quotes from Saturday

(Is there an update on Nkufo’s arrival date?) “Adrian is in communication with him so it looks like, I don’t know what the final date is, but it looks like he’s going to come in somewhere around the 12th or 13th [of July], somewhere around that time. So that’s probably not going to include him in the D.C. game but then we will move forward from there.”

(Could debut in the Celtic friendly on the 18th?) “Possibly. We have got to see where he is because we are giving him this time as a break time. So physically where he is, even on his break time he will be doing some stuff and so forth, it’s not like he’s just going to sit around, but we want to get him around the ball. So maybe it’s the friendly, maybe it’s the game on the 25th.”

(On how L.A. is different from their last meeting…) “Obviously it’s a team that has played different people with Buddle and Donovan being gone. But the game in May we felt the score was not reflective of the game, but the only way we can prove that is to go out there and play well in L.A. against them. They are a team that puts a lot of emphasis on defending. They are looking to defend. They are looking to counter. They try and get through on the speed of Donovan and Buddle and then get some support players there as well. We just got to make sure we do a good job dealing with the counter. Playing-wise, style-wise, they really didn’t play any different while Buddle and Donovan were gone. Obviously those guys are class players and Buddle was the best forward in the league prior to leaving and Donovan, the name says itself.”

(Is there an update on Brad Evans’ knee injury?) “They actually did surgery on it. It was arthroscopic surgery so when it locked up this time, we had to go in arthroscopically, the doctor went in and just removed that tear. He’s making good progress. I think he is a little over a week out from surgery and we’re hoping that next week he is going to start to be able to be more active, start touching the ball and possibly by the 18th, for sure by the 25th, there maybe a chance.”

(And this recurring issue should be behind him?) “Yeah.”
