Final: There’s the final whistle! Seattle wins 2-0 and advances to host a semifinal against Chivas USA here at 7 p.m. on September 1st. More to come.
88′: Sounders wrapping this one up. Appear to be headed to the semifinals for a fourth-straight year dating back to the USL days.
83′: Seattle sub: David Estrada on for Jaqua, who also gets a rousing cheer leaving the field.
79′: Attendance: 4,512. Riley has come on for Seamon.
71′: Seattle sub: Gonzalez on for Montano, who gets a huge ovation. And hugs from his teammates. Also Juninho comes on for Kirovski.
68′: LA sub, Kovalenko in for Klein. Writing duties will start to take over now. Be sure to help out in the comments section, if you can.
62′: GOAL SEATTLE! Sounders on a patient counterattack, Miguel Montano chips in a cross from the endline to Jaqua on the far post, who heads the ball in before Saunders can close him down.
59′: We’ll see how Seattle plays with the lead, something it hasn’t done very much. The counterattacking chances are there, but the Sounders haven’t made the most of them.
50′: GOAL SEATTLE! Montano takes a pass from Seamon and fires a shot on goal, it’s saved. Then the young Colombian fires the rebounds off the crossbar. Thankfully Jaqua was there to head it in a couple feet in front of the goal.
49′: Boss with some shaky moments on an L.A. corner kick. Sounders escape unscathed due to a bad touch by Cazumba.
46′: We’re off in the second half. No changes at the break. Zakuani was warming up early, I could see him coming on at around the 60-minute mark for Montano, who has been working like crazy.
Expect Noonan for Jaqua at some point I’d imagine.
Halftime: Entertaining half. Lots of action and chances. Both teams had seven shots, Seattle had two on goal, L.A. had none. What moves do you see coming?
Maybe David Estrada for Sanna Nyassi?
45′: Cazumba booked for a harsh tackle on Jaqua.
42′: Crazy scramble in front of the L.A. goal! Jaqua hurdling Galaxy players to try to direct a bouncing ball on net, but it’s cleared.
39′: While Montano is down clutching his left ankle, Kirovski makes a dangerous run on the other end and has a shot deflect off the post. Dangerous moments there survived by Seattle. The youngster appears to be OK.
38′: Lots of crosses and cross-field passes going long. I’m sure the narrow field has something to do with that. Galaxy midfielder Cazumba with some fancy footwork in the Sounders box but his shot is well off target.
33′: Seattle has had more chances, but I think L.A. has had better chances. Montano is running his young legs off along that left flank. Strong effort from him all night.
30′: Sounders have appeared to be on the wrong end of some interesting offsides calls.
27′: Ianni down after a collision on the far side of the field. Elsewhere L.A.’s Cazumba draws a foul in a dangerous spot. Mathis fires it over the bar.
26′: The pace of this game is crazy fast with the small field. Definitely back and forth stuff between the two teams. Makes it hard to take my eyes off the action to update.
21′: Jaqua with a semi-bicycle kick off a Zach Scott service. The shot was nowhere near the goal, but drew a response from the crowd.
19′: LA’s Klein sets up Alan Gordon in front of the Seattle goal, but his shot is inches off target. Sounders lucky there.
17′: It’s become a long ball-fest here. Not a lot of possession. On LA’s side, DeLaGarza fires a shot over the bar.
11′: Sounders look quick and energetic. Definitely controlling things so far. Terry Boss hasn’t had much to do.
6′: LA responds and gets three CKs in a row, but to no avail. Miguel Montano the sharpest player out there right now.
3′: Seattle with a couple corner kicks to start, but nothing comes of them.
1′: And we’re off. Sounders appear to be in a 4-4-2.
Pregame: I generally don’t make predictions for USOC games, since breaking down the game beforehand is tough without knowing the lineups. On paper I think L.A. looks betters, so I’ll call it a 2-1 Galaxy win. What do you think?
Pregame: A huge 6-foot-6 dude in a Terry Boss jersey is sitting in front of us in the VIP section. My guess? Younger brother Kevin Boss of the NY Giants.
Pregame: We’re about 30 minutes from kickoff and the Sounders FC definitely have electricity yellow going on. Landon Donovan and Edson Buddle aren’t here, but the Galaxy aren’t lacking in depth, that’s for sure.
