Sounders FC

Daily coverage of Seattle Sounders FC, MLS and world soccer.

July 9, 2010 at 1:34 PM

Sounders FC coach Sigi Schmid quotes from Friday

(On playing at Qwest Field…) “We have been away for a while. It was good to get to Starfire on Wednesday and play there. It’s good to be back out here and play a home game here. So we want to take the success that we have had in the Open Cup and translate it into the league.”

(On importance of Sunday’s match…) “We got to get points. It doesn’t matter what the other teams do. It’s a matter of us getting points. So we need to get points and we need to win our home games, for sure. So we have got to come out with that desire and that fight this weekend. These three points are very crucial to our needs and our success for the rest of the year.”

(On FC Dallas…) “We have an idea. Obviously we have watched them play all year. We have played them down there so we know what they’re doing. They have stayed pretty consistent in their lineup. They haven’t started [Jeff] Cunningham the last couple of games. They have played [Atiba] Harris up front. They have stayed true to their 4-3-3 and we will be ready for it.”

(On if Wednesday’s game affects lineup for Sunday…) “Not really because we didn’t play an overtime game and you also got Thursday, Friday and Saturday, so you got three days so that’s pretty good recovery time. We are also at the stage of our season where we got to put out what we think is the best team for the occasion.”

(On previous match against Dallas…) “We definitely thought we got jobbed a little bit at the end of that game with the penalty kick call. We don’t think we dominated the game from A though Z, for sure, but we had the lead, I thought we were managing the game very well and we didn’t put it in the bank, so to speak. We definitely want to win season series. We’ve lost a season series to L.A. We are even with Philadelphia. We need to win the season series with Dallas.”

(On Brad Evans and Osvaldo Alonso…) “Just taking it day by day. Alonso obviously did a lot more today so we will see how he feels tomorrow and that will make a decision for him on the weekend, whether he can be on the bench or not. Evans is obviously starting to run. He was in the 5 v 2 today so he’s a little over two weeks out. So he is making good progress. It’s good to see [Jhon] Kennedy [Hurtado] running a little bit today, as well.”
