There was a bit of a surprise at Saturday training, as Sounders FC coach Sigi Schmid said Freddie Ljungberg will be unavailable for the FC Dallas game Sunday with an ankle injury. The star midfielder apparently suffered the knock in training Thursday, not sure if he rolled it or had it kicked.
I didn’t see him receiving any treatment yesterday, and it doesn’t sound major. Schmid called it day-to-day and said surgery won’t be required. Here’s the transcript of the chat reporters had with the coach:
* * *
(Didn’t see Ljungberg out here, will he be available tomorrow?) “No. We put him on the injured list yesterday. During practice he tweaked his ankle a little bit. Right now we don’t see him being able to go tomorrow.”
(How long will he be out?) “We’ll have to see. It’s a day-to-day type of thing.”
(So no surgery required) “No, no.”
(When you say injury list, you mean IR?) “No he’s on the injury report. We listed him yesterday because he had come to it after practice.”
(On overcoming his loss) “I thought our team played with a lot of endeavor and a lot of energy on Wednesday night. We want to bring the same endeavor and energy onto the field on Sunday. That’s out objective, is to go out here. You got to play with the players you have and we want those players to go out there and perform, to play with a high level of desire and energy and get the result we’re looking for.”
