Seattle Sounders FC 1, FC Dallas 1 — visitors’ quotes

Schellas Hyndman – FC Dallas Head Coach

(On pulling out a late game goal against the Seattle Sounders FC…) “I think we are very fortunate to be playing up a man for more than 40 minutes. I think the game definitely changed at that time. Seattle worked very hard in the first (half). We told the boys we didn’t know how long they could keep that level up. They helped us out by getting a card, so we drove forward and tried to create a lot of opportunities. I think the shot count in the second half was pretty dominating. Kasey [Keller] did a great job in goal and the balls didn’t bounce right for us. We ended with a point which is very difficult to come away with in this environment playing against a great team with a tremendous crowd that they get, on a field turf that is wet. It was a difficult game but great to come away with a point.”

(On tactical surprises by the Sounders FC….) “I think the big tactics was the lineup. We watched them play a few times and played them earlier and went through out notes from the last match. The lineup is very different, that surprised us and we thought they would be in a 4-4-2. They are desperate right now and need points and they came out with a lot of intensity. The adjustment we made at halftime was dealing with Montero, who was stepping back into the midfield when they were defending. They were shutting down our passing lanes in the first half and we wanted to stretch Seattle a little bit more and go more diagonal with our forwards. It was working OK, by being up a man it worked much better.”

(On Seattle playing a little desperate during the match…) “Yes, we expected a lot of intensity, we didn’t expect them to sit back and go for a tie. The thing I’m learning is you have to get your points when you’re at home; it is so hard to get them on the road. I think the league is very even and has great parity. Every week you have to be fighting. Sigi Schmid does a great job of motivating players and getting them all on the same page.

(On the Sounders FC medium age at midfield being 21 years old….) “No not really, I think that is a sign for the future. I didn’t realize that, I knew there wasn’t much experience in terms of playing a lot of games, but I didn’t realize it was that young. It is something the Sounders should be really happy about with their future.”

David Ferreria – FC Dallas Forward

(On scoring the equalizing goal tonight…) “I got the ball over from the left side, I made my run inside, I played it inside to Heath [Pearce], I continued my run inside, he played my through. Thanks to God I was able to connect with the ball and score the equalizer.”

(On coming onto a scoring hot streak…) “Thanks to God, I’m in good form right now. I’m learning a lot and getting better everyday in training and it’s translating into the games.”

(On having an adjustment period to the MLS…) “Yes, I feel I have adapted and thankfully I have been getting better everyday in training. I have gotten good information from the technical staff and the trainers are making me better.”
