Chivas USA Forward Justin Braun named MLS Player of the Week

Braun notches two goals in Chivas USA’s 2-0 win over Kansas City Wizards

NEW YORK (Monday, July 12, 2010) – Chivas USA forward Justin Braun was voted Major League Soccer Player of the Week by the North American Soccer Reporters (NASR) for Week 15 of the 2010 MLS season. Braun scored two goals in Chivas USA’s victory over the Kansas City Wizards on Saturday, July 10 at CommunityAmerica Ballpark.

In the 56th minute, Braun picked up a loose ball after a defensive misplay, took a touch, and from the top of the 18-yard box drove the ball inside the near post past goalkeeper Jimmy Nielsen.

Braun scored the insurance goal for Chivas USA in the 87th minute when he capitalized on yet another defensive error. The Salt Lake City native intercepted a pass from Kansas City Wizards’ veteran defender Jimmy Conrad and immediately headed towards goal. From the top of the 18-yard box, he curled his shot past an outstretched Nielsen for his second goal of the night.

Braun’s effort helped Chivas snap a seven-game winless streak.

This is Braun’s first career Player of the Week award.

The MLS Player of the Week is selected each week of the regular season by a panel of journalists from NASR. The group consists of members of print, television, radio and online media. More information and membership information can be found at http://www.soccerreporters.com/.
