As you can see, no Sounders were named. Certainly the 4-8-4 record this year will have an impact on Seattle’s representation. Last year goalkeeper Kasey Keller and midfielder Freddie Ljunbgerg were in the First XI, and forward Fredy Montero and defender Jhon Kennedy Hurtado were added as reserves.
The rest of the 23-man all-star roster will be revealed next Monday, July 19. The team will play Manchester United on July 28 in Houston (yes, that is the same day as the Sounders’ home game against Metapan in the preliminary round of the CCL, so your guys in rave green won’t be able to play in the all-star game).
In closing, here’s an interesting note from the release that’s new this year:
Under the CBA, a total of 32 players will be named All-Stars. After the 23-man game day roster, the remaining nine players receiving that title will come from the weighted voting, but will be inactive for the All-Star Game.
