Chatting with Sounders FC gen. manager Adrian Hanauer

(Any roster moves to announce?) “Nothing official, yet. I’ve read a lot of rumors online, various rumors. But no we don’t have anything official to announce at this time.”

(On the state of the team right now — worried?) “I’m always worried, whether we’ve won all of our games or whether we’ve lost all of our games. I think there are signs of improvement, good energy, getting healthier, got Blaise in the mix, so there are certainly signs of encouragement. We’ll see on Sunday night how it all comes together.”

(On Ljungberg’s situation) “Again Freddie, at this time he’s training by himself. Getting healthy. Getting fit. We agreed together that it made some sense to keep him away from the club as he’s exploring other options — I don’t think it’s a secret that that’s happening. And we just thought it was best to keep this team focused right here on winning on Sunday. Let Freddie explore options. As that process plays out, we’ll take things as they come to us. Assuming something does or doesn’t happen in the next week or few days or week or two weeks, we’ll cross that bridge when we get to it.”

(Is he still physically in the Northwest?) “Yes.”

(Some have left the door slightly open to him staying here, how realistic is that?) “I don’t really have a strong comment on that. He’s looking at other options and he’s a fantastic player, who has been a great ambassador for this club. Helped us launch an amazing franchise, is a good guy, someone I consider a friend. I think the best thing is to let this play out, see what he can find for himself and then cross that bridge when we come to it.”

(How long is the ball in his court before the team decides to press the issue?) “I would say it’s more of a collaborative effort and we’re not going to just sell him out. He’s been, again, a great ambassador for this club and we need to treat him with respect, like we would with any other player. And so again it’ll be more of a collaborative effort.”

(Do you think the fans expect to replace a DP with another DP-type?) “They may. We have high expectations of ourselves as well. If we can find the right player that’s going to make us better, we’ve never been shy about willing to go after that player.”

(Are you limited on bringing in a player before there’s a Ljungberg move?) “Certainly Freddie is on the roster. He hits our cap at a certain number, he’s a foreign player, so we have limitations in that way. So yes, as far as that’s concerened. Just like bringing any other player in there’s limitations to cap space and number of roster spots, and number of foreign players allowed.”

(No inactive list or anything you can put him on without releasing him?) “No.”
