While CD FAS is the most decorated Salvadoran squad, Isidro Metapan has been the most successful in the past decade, winning four first-division titles in the last seven seasons. Its crowning moment came in 2007 when a 1-0 victory against Luis Angel Firpo clinched its first title, the Clausura championship. Los Caleros won the Apertura title a year later on a penalty shootout against CD Chalatenango and in May 2009, Metapan won its third crown, again beating Firpo by a lone goal. Founded by Adan Martinez and Professor Jose Castro, the club was first known as Club Deportivo Isidro Menendez. In 2000, CESSA por el de Metapan FC and Club Deportivo Isidro Menendez merged to form Isidro Metapan. Edwin Portillo has been the manager during the club’s recent successful run. Young Salvadoran international Lester Blanco scored twice to help Metapan claim the 2010 Clausura title with a 3-1 victory against Aguila, while midfielder Josue Flores was named most valuable player for the Apertura 2009 for FAS before moving to Metapan. The club plays at Estadio Jorge Calero Suarez, an 8,000-seat multi-purpose stadium.
