FINAL: Seattle Sounders FC 1, Isidro Metapan 0, game thread

FINAL: Sounders FC 1, Metapan 0. Hosts control the game from start to finish. More to come.

89′: Sounders pressing for one more. Metapan seems content with the scoreline.

83′: Nyassi again! Just wide…

81′: Great buildup results in a shot by Nyassi. It’s saved.

76′: Graham connects on a corner kick but it bounces over.

72′: Writing duties will start to take over now. Feel free to provide your thoughts in the comments section for those that can’t watch.

69′: Taylor Graham just misses getting on the end of a free kick. Sounders would love to get one more for sure.

66′: Still shocked that shot went in. We’ll see how hard Metapan presses. Losing 1-0 on the road wouldn’t be a bad result.

GOAL SEATTLE! 60′ — Within a couple seconds of coming into the game, Montero fires a hopeful shot from distance that the keeper completely messes up. I would say he was Jabulani’d but we’re using a different ball.

60′: Montero comes in for Jaqua.

58′: Announced attendance here at Qwest Field: 17,228.

56′: Montano was a great run through a couple Metapan defenders and sets up Nyassi for a shot, but the young Gambian skies it. Zakuani comes on for Montano actually in the 57th minute.

54′: Zakuani set to come in, probably for Nyassi, who played 80 minutes Sunday.

51′: Levesque commits a foul, offers to help the guy up, but he refuses. The crowd boos. I wonder if that was a time-wasting ploy, bad sportsmanship or just needing some time to shake off the knock.

48′: Don’t see any changes for Seattle. Not sure about Metapan.

47′: Injury update on Pete Vagenas, a right quad strain. Appears he could’ve aggravated the injury he suffered against New York in May. Meanwhile Jaqua just can’t stretch to reach a cross in front of the Metapan goal.

46′: And we’re off in the second half!

Halftime: Sounders FC outshot the visitors 7-0. Metapan committed 10 fouls and Seattle had four corner kicks — that’s a lot of set pieces. Five bookings so far.

Halftime: The field was tilted to the Metapan goal all game but Seattle couldn’t get one in. Probably had a dozen or so set pieces, but nothing from them. Metapan happy to defend and Sounders’ finishing is proving that strategy right so far.

45′: Two minutes of stoppage time.

44′: Zakuani warming up behind the Seattle goal. I wonder if he’ll be an early second-half sub.

42′: Montano draws another foul and a booking. He’s been getting a beating. Alonso’s free kick is blocked.

41′: Tense moment for the Sounders and Metapan gets in behind the backline. Keller eventually gathers the low cross.

39′: Gonzalez does well to keep the ball in on the sideline, swings a cross into Nyassi, who winds up but his shot is blocked. Later Montano sends a hopeful shot from distance wide.

38′: Another corner kick for the Sounders (they have to take advantage of all these), but it’s punched out by the ‘keeper.

36′: Nyassi with another good cross cleared. Later Marshall wins a ball and makes a run despite dragging a defender. Eventually the Metapan player is booked. Seattle’s free kick is cleared.

33′: Montano earns another free kick. Alonso swings it in expertly to the far post, but Mike Seamon can’t reach it.

32′: Another dangerous free kick for Seattle. Ozzie drills it, but it’s blocked.

29′: BLOCKED! Montano with a great cross, Levesque gets it and lays it off for a shot by Mike Seamon that would’ve been very dangerous, but it’s blocked. Looked like Jaqua was wide open on the far side of the goal.

27′: Not much for Kasey Keller to do so far.

24′: One-sided action here for Seattle. Jaqua and Gonzalez combine well but it’s cleared at the end. Feels like the Sounders will get one soon.

23′: More good stuff from Nyassi, set up by Riley, but the cross is cleared.

21′: Nyassi with a decent cross to the far post, but Montano heads it wide. Probably too much pace on the service, and Jaqua was available in the middle.

19′: Now Alonso is booked for a sliding tackle. Yeesh, the card is flying out of the pocket.

18′: Riley is booked for a challenge on the right wing. Vagenas was carded earlier, but I didn’t see what for. Maybe playing a free kick before the whistle?

17′: Word is there was a huge line outside Qwest to buy tickets. The crowd isn’t so bad and continues to fill up.

14′: Alonso is on. Just in time for a Metapan corner kick, which is played short and eventually cleared.

13′: With some back and forth action going on the field, Seattle still has 10 men out there (Levesque drops back a little). Vagenas walks down the sideline with a towel over his head.

11′: Pete walks off the field into the tunnel. Kind of weird. Alonso is warming up and looks like he’s ready to come in.

9′: Vagenas writhing in pain after taking a corner kick. No one was near him. The non-contact injuries are always worrisome.

7′: Jaqua finds Nyassi on the right flank, he earns a corner kick. Graham challenges for the Vagenas cross, but it’s cleared. Montano then earns a free kick on the left of the goal. It’s cleared.

4′: Ref calling this one tight to start. Here’s Seattle’s shape:

1′: And we’re off! I’ll get the Sounders FC formation going…

Pregame: ECS with a tifo that says, “World domination starts here” with a picture of Dr. Evil from Austin Powers. I know you were dying for that nugget of info.

Pregame: A good amount of El Salvadorian fans in the building. It also looks like GM Adrian Hanauer and tech. director Chris Henderson are here after attending league meeting in Houston this week.

Pregame: Besides injuries to Evans, Fucito, Noonan and Hurtado, it looks like Schmid will have Zach Scott, Patrick Ianni, Nathan Sturgis and Blaise Nkufo sit this one out.

Pregame: New tournament, new opponent, new game ball, new warm-up pennies. In the end, it’s the same game and we’ll see how the Sounders look. Seattle will be in its ‘Electricity’ yellow uniforms and Metapan is in all blue.

Pregame: We’re about 30 minutes from kickoff. The coaches (Sigi Schmid for Seattle and Edwin Portillo for the visitors) just met at midfield for a friendly chat.
