It was t-shirt and shorts weather for me today at Sounders FC training on a beautiful, sunny Wednesday afternoon. A handful of invitees are in camp to facilitate some scrimmages as some of the regulars take it easy at the start of the camp.
Trialist John Rooney is still around for the week. According to a representative, he’ll be in Portland next week and his schedule after that is unknown. I was told he’s still under contract with Macclesfield and they want might another look at him.
I would say Rooney fits in well. He’s a soft-spoken kid as we saw after training, but he had a 25-yard rocket shot for a goal on a finishing drill that said enough. He’s got very good touch on the ball as well, from what I’ve seen at least.
The team did a lot of fitness work to start practice and then a handful of drills. Then some scrimmaging and finishing to close. Here are the shots:
* * *
1. Here’s Rooney in the flesh. Not the biggest guy, but one we’ll keep an eye on.
2. Another shot, another goal? I don’t remember but Fredy Montero gets the benefit of the doubt.
3. Here’s a shot of the morning jog. The many invitees (no one but Rooney is considered to be trying out for the team) make it a very large group right now.
4. Another look at Rooney here receiving a pass. Who knows what the future holds?
