FINAL: Seattle Sounders FC 0, Chivas USA 0, game thread

FINAL. Sounders FC 0-0 Chivas USA. Not a bad point in the end, but Seattle will surely have wanted better. Ugliness late in this one also. More to come.

90′: Two minutes stoppage. Trujillo absolutely strikes Leo with a cheap shot. Big scrum ensues. Trujillo AND Leo sent off.

88′: SAVE! Thornton stretches to make a game-saving stop on a blast from Osvaldo Alonso.

85′: Sounders FC sub. Jaqua for Montero. The nine-game streak of having either a goal or an assist ends at 9.

81′: Sounders FC sub. Levesque for Nyassi.

79′: Chivas sub. Padilla for Gordon.

76′: The streamers are back. Now they attack Thornton in goal.

74′: Seattle just misses as Montano is called offside gathering an Alonso through ball.

70′: Keller coming up very big to preserve this 0-0 scoreline.

67′: Montano checking in for Fernandez. Seattle’s first sub.

61′: POST! Nkufo with a great cross from the left side to Nyassi, whose bouncing header hits the far post. He probably should’ve done better.

58′: Dangerous cross by Nagamura might’ve been the home team’s best chance so far. Then Keller stops an Espinoza shot.

52′: Espinoza with space. Fires high.

49′: Clock finally working. I’ll have to too. Late game = tight deadline, so I’ll be working on the story for most of the second half. Live-blog updates might be sparce, so feel free to help those who can’t watch with your thoughts in the comments section.

47′: Maldonado in for Romero. Braun playing on the right for Chivas. They’ve made two subs already.

46′: And we’re off! The clock’s not running though. Now the clock’s at 43:00.

Halftime: What subs you looking for? I’ll say Montano for Nyassi maybe around 55′-60′.

Halftime: Montero looks ready to go.

Halftime: Seattle with a 5-1 advantage in shots, Montero had three. Seattle up 4-3 in corner kicks and suffered five fouls to Chivas’ four.

Halftime: We’re tied 0-0 at the break. Some entertaining soccer I thought from both teams, but neither ‘keeper called upon to do much. Stats to come.

45′: Just three minutes of stoppage time (whew!). They’re calling it a thigh contusion for Montero, we’ll see if he plays in the second half.

44′: Both look to be alright, we’ll start play again. More stoppage time means deadline just got tighter.

43′: Montero looks to be OK. Smiles as he talks to James Riley, now Thornton is being looked at.

41′: Montero up! And walking it off. Definitely appears to be in a daze as he talks to the trainer and the ref. We’ll see if he can continue. Jaqua was the first one off the bench.

40′: Meanwhile, Jazic had flu-like symptoms. Montero is still down. Did not look good at all, and Thornton is a big dude.

38′: Montero collides with Thornton. Trainers sprint on the field. That looked bad.

36′: Keller attacked by a mass of streamers! Out of nowhere! The run of play is stopped while a bunch of people clean it up.

35′: Great run by Nkufo, carries it to the goal, quick cross deflected out for a CK. Another poor effort from Sturgis I felt.

33′: Bit of indecision from Nkufo there after being set up by Flaco. Maybe should’ve just hit it.

30′: Chivas sub: Bornstein for Jazic. That was a surprise, injury related?

27′: Bad giveaway from Sanna (not his best game so far) result on a break for Chivas, which results in a corner. Nkufo with an authoritative clearance though.

26′: Up and down pace now, it’s hard to keep up with the action. Montero with a good run, but his shot knuckles over.

21′: Flaco playing centrally, quite a bit.

20′: Espinoza with another great service, but it’s cleared by Leo. The new Mexican winger for Chivas might be one of the better servers of the ball I’ve seen this season.

20′: Montero tried to wiggle some room in the box, but his shot is right at Thorton.

19′: The pace of this one is picking up. Thank the beat from the drums of the fans?

Parke tries to go coast to coast! But he’s tackled well by Umana.

17′: Montero very nearly finds Flaco, who was making a great diagonal run in the box.

16′: Great tackle from Ianni. Blaise is fouled and doesn’t like it. Montero takes a spill, after committing a foul earlier. It’s getting a little chippy.

14′: Nyassi with the steal and breaks down the right flank. No one is there for the service. Is that the soccer equivalent of outkicking your coverage? He outran everyone and there was no one there to receive the cross.

12′: Nkufo seeks out Montero well, but the cross from the left is right at Thornton. Later Nkufo earns a foul from 30+ yards out and Sturgis sets up a cross. Poor cross, falls to Nyassi but his shot is off target.

10′: Bit of uncertainty from Thornton, then Montero shoves him and the ball out for another CK, which is again nervously punched out by Thornton. Sanna in the end with a wayward cross, but the Chivas goalkeeper doesn’t look steady so far.

9′: A long, hopeful shot by Montero is deflected out for a corner kick, but Sturgis’ effort is cleared.

7′: Espinoza with another couple dangerous crosses. Chivas definitely on the front foot to start.

5′: Bad giveaway from Leo, Alonso fouls Braun. Looked a little light, but it was straight from behind. On the Espinoza free kick, Riley heads it out for a corner kick. Flaco clears the Espinoza CK.

4′: Braun and Nagamura combine well, but Riley is there from the clearance.

3′: Dangerous searching ball from Espinoza, but Keller is off his line to grab it.

2′: Sounders FC in a shape like this:

1′: And we’re off! A familiar-enough lineup for Seattle. I’ll get the formation up ASAP.

Pregame: Sounders FC will be in the green-green-blue combination, a popular look on the road. Chivas USA in the traditional red-and-white striped tops, with blue shorts and socks. Keller in yellow. Thornton in black. Refs in UCLA blue.

Pregame: Much lighter crowd than my previous visit here (for the Galaxy game). It won’t be an intimidating atmosphere, though there are a lot of Thunder Sticks.

Pregame: It’s getting chilly here in Carson, Calif. The teams are warming up and we’re probably 20 minutes from kickoff.

I’ve posted the starting lineups below and on my Twitter account.
