FINAL: Disappointing result for Seattle, which loses 2-1 to Marathon on the road. There was a goal our there for Sounders FC in the second half, but they couldn’t get it. More to come.
90’+3: Open shot by Alonso over the bar.
90’+1: With three minutes of stoppage time, Sturgis swings in a corner kick, but Orio goes up and gets it.
89′: Poor clearance by Marathon falls right into Montero’s lap. He turns and fires but it rolls inches wide. Not sure if Sounders FC fans could ask for a better chance than that, especially from the star forward.
87′: Estrada on for Levesque.
85′: Seattle still pressing, but running out of time.
78′: CROSSBAR! I didn’t see who it was, maybe Mike Seamon, on the header from a corner kick.
72′: Free kick by Sturgis is just wide. On the ensuing goal kick, Marshall hits heads with Cardozo. Both go down and get treatment.
69′: Michael Seamon on for Alvaro Fernandez, both DPs off now.
68′: Montero cross finds Jaqua, but not a lot of power on the header.
64′: Alonso fires from distance, but it’s well over the goal.
63′: Gonzalez booked. Didn’t make much of an effort on the ball there. The Marathon player made the most of it.
Jaqua comes on for Nkufo.
62′: Corner kick by Sturgis punched away by Orio. Marathon goes on the counterattack, but it doesn’t lead to much.
57′: Is that thunder I hear?
54′: Free kick by Montero saved comfortably by Orio. Writing duties will start to take over in the second half.
48′: Nkufo sets up Montero with a flick, but the Colombian was slow to react to it. He sets up Fernandez, but the shot is deflected out for a corner kick. On the ensuing cross, Fernandez near-post header is off target.
46′: And we’re off in the second half.
Halftime: Marathon leads 2-1 over Sounders FC. Probably a fair scoreline, but Seattle will be crushed to allow that late goal.
45’+1: GOAL Marathon. Cardozo finishes the spot kick with power down the middle. It’s 2-1 Marathon.
44′: Penalty? Marshall catches a Marathon player on the follow through. Much like the penalty called against him in the Philadelphia game on the road.
43′: Corner kick for Seattle, but it’s cleared away.
40′: Near miss for Marathon off the crossbar. Leo Gonzalez does well to clear the ball from in front of the Seattle net.
38′: Free kick by Nkufo is well-taken but off target.
35′: Levesque nearly gets another, but his toe-poke shot in a dangerous moment in the box is saved by Orio.
33′: Great run by Gonzalez, but his cross from the left side can’t find a teammate. Moments later Osvaldo Alonso rips a shot from distance, but it’s wide.
27′: GOAL Marathon. Orvin Paz collects a pass in the Seattle penalty box and fires a low shot past the diving Keller to the near post.
25′: Great sliding challenge by Alonso to stop a dangerous shot attempt from the left side after a cross bounces through the Sounders FC penalty box.
21′: Sturgis with a run on the left, his cross is taken by Orio.
17′: GOAL SEATTLE! Montero pounces on a miscue by a Marathon defender and swings in a cross that is touched on by Blaise Nkufo to Roger Levesque, who calmly finishes for the goal.
16′: Montero fires from distance, but it’s well off target.
14′: Marathon with the better of it so far. Not a big surprise. Seattle will need to weather the storm early.
11′: Fernandez goes down clutching his right knee. No call. He’s up, walking it off. James Riley also receiving treatment.
9′: Incredible sliding tackle by Tyrone Marshall stops a sure goal by Marathon!
5′: Montero looks active and spry. The thigh doesn’t appear to be bothering him. Seattle’s lineup, I think, looks something like this.
3′: Montero gets behind the defense on the right side. Jukes a defender but his cross is gathered by the goalkeeper.
2′: Marathon cross comes in and there’s a header on goal, but Keller isn’t troubled on the save.
1′: And we’re off! Looks like Alvaro is on the right.
Pregame: Here’s a tweet from @mattgaschk
“@SoundersFC starters vs Marathon: Keller, Gonzalez, Parke, Marshall, Riley, Levesque, Alonso, Sturgis, Fernandez, Nkufo, Montero”
Levesque and Marshall getting the call.
Pregame: Just got done with the spot in 710 AM, getting ready for the game. Not sure what to expect in this one, but the other MLS teams are 3-0 so far and have set a high standard.
Pregame: I have a pregame radio spot and some writing duties to take care of tonight, but I’ll have running updates throughout the game here.
