(On Chicago Fire) “Obviously they are a team that has some games in hand so they are chasing points but because they have games in hand they can get points. There are a lot of good players on the team. Husidic has had a good year so far. Certainly Marco Pappa is a dangerous player because he is a left-footed guy who likes to play on the right and come inside at times. Conde, for us is not playing, but he’s a definitely a stalwart for them defensively. Calen Carr has certainly come off his injury and is very dangerous and very effective. Patrick Nyarko, before he was injured, was another player who is very dangerous and effective. So they have a lot of speed with Carr, with Nyarko and Pappa has got decent speed. So there is a lot of danger there.”
(On Freddie Ljungberg’s return) “His return certainly adds something to the game because Freddie is going to want to play very well and do well in this particular game and our guys are going to want to play well against him. It’s not something that we are going to spend a long time talking about but it’s something that is ever present, that’s there in your mind and that the guys know and that Freddie knows. I think it’s going to spur both sides onto a performance. The Chicago team is going to want to do well because Freddie is their teammate now so they want to support him in that way. And our team wants to do well and say, ‘Hey, we are still a viable team.’ ”
(On Sounders FC personnel) “Zakuani will be in the 18. So he’s doing better, seems to be getting over the injury that he had. Obviously Leo is out with (the red card). Evans is actually starting to feel a little bit better. We are nowhere close to being able to start training him but at least there is some forward progress, which is nice. Noonan, Vagenas and Kennedy, obviously, are out. Also Vagenas is starting to make some progress and getting better.”
(On replacing Gonzalez) “We have a couple of options. Zach Scott is an option. Tyson Wahl is an option back there. Those have been the two guys that have played left back for us when Leo hasn’t been able to play. We’ll make a decision. That’ll be my secret, we’ll play one of those two.”
(On the Open Cup final potentially being in Seattle) “It doesn’t change anything from the standpoint that we want to defend our championship. I haven’t looked it up yet, but I think it’s been a while since a team won it two years in a row so it would be nice to add that accomplishment. And being able to host it I think gives us a little added incentive and a little added push because of the opportunity to maybe win a U.S. Open Cup in front of our fans is something that’s unique as well. I think it would be a great tribute to our fans, but before we can even think about that we have to get through with the semifinal and then we’ll think about that.
