Both Seattle and Chicago were training at Starfire this morning. As such, both practices were closed until the final minutes (to avoid spies? maybe…). When I showed up, the Sounders FC players were doing their final stretches and it seemed like training was light and quick.
We talked to coach Sigi Schmid about a number of players on the squad and here’s what he had to say: 1) Steve Zakuani, who has been dealing with a pelvic strain, will be on the 18-man gameday roster, 2) Zach Scott and Tyson Wahl are the candidates to replace the suspended Leo Gonzalez at left back, 3) Peter Vagenas’ condition is improving and Brad Evans’ knee is getting better, but he’s still a ways from getting back into training.
The countdown for Freddie Ljungberg v. Sounders FC is at about 29 hours as I publish this. There’s so much intrigue around this one that not many people have been talking about the huge playoff ramifications in this upcoming match.
Should be a good one. Here are a couple quick shots:
* * *
1. Here’s asst. coach Ezra Hendrickson showing some skill at the end of training.
2. General manager Adrian Hanauer and coach Sigi Schmid have a chat.
3. Synchronized stretching. Noonan (left) loses points for right-arm placement and the shoes.
4. Despite a couple CCL losses, don’t forget this team is unbeaten in the last six MLS games.
