FINAL: Sounders FC 3, Chivas USA 1, Open Cup game thread

FINAL: Sounders FC advance to the final with a 3-1 win. More to come.

90+2′: GOAL SEATTLE! Jaqua with the header to seal it on a cross from Levesque. This one’s over.

90′: Three minutes of stoppage time. Braun called offside on a breakaway. Seattle sub, tonight’s hero Zakuani off for Jeff Parke.

89′: Seattle on the attack. Chivas USA not creating many chances in the end here.

87′: MISS! Wide open header by Zakuani on a cross by Seamon goes wide. That would’ve sealed it. Should’ve hit the target, but considering his two assists, he gets a pass.

83′: Seattle sub: Levesque for Fernandez.

81′: Near collision between Montero and Thornton, but the Chivas keeper gets the ball. Wonder if Fredy had flashbacks to the hit in their league game last month.

79′: Booking to Alonso.

78′: Lots of flare smoke on the field. Chivas pressing hard for the equalizer, but I’d say play is about even.

71′: On a scramble after a corner kick, Graham launches a shot over the goal. Lotta time left in this one.

68′: GOAL CHIVAS USA. Braun flick the ball onto Padilla, who buries a shot past Keller. Don’t print those headlines yet…

66′: Seattle sub: Nathan Sturgis off and Mike Seamon on. Writing duties will start to take over now. Late midweek games provide for more difficult deadlines. Be sure to keep things going in the comments section.

63′: Chivas sub: Maldonado off and Zizzo on.

59′: GOAL SEATTLE! Steve Zakuani with a great move on the left side to get free, plays in a beauty of a cross to Montero in front of the goal for the tap-in. Sounders FC 2-0 Chivas USA.

55′: Chivas USA sub: Jesus Padilla in for Marcelo Saragosa.

52′: Wow. Montero’s free kick from 45 (?) yards was knuckling and gave Thornton all sorts of problems. It’s out for a corner, but nothing comes of it.

52′: Sturgis goes down heard. Yellow card to Nagamura.

50′: Zakuani and Jaqua play a phenomenal 1-2 in the offensive third, but Steve’s shot is right at Thornton. Bit of a letdown after some great buildup.

47′: Braun another good run, but his cross is cleared. He’s been their best player. Easily.

46′: And we’re off in the second half! Chivas made one sub, Bornstein off and Lahoud on.

Halftime: Some stats at the break:

Shots: SEA 10, CHV 2

Shots on goal: SEA 4, CHV 1

Fouls: SEA 4, CHV 5

Offsides: SEA 1, CHV 2

Corner kicks: SEA 4, CHV 2

Saves: SEA 1, CHV 3

Halftime: Sounders FC 1, Chivas USA 0. Seattle maybe unlucky not to be up by two goals. Some writing duties take over now. I’ll have stats up soon.

45′: One minute of stoppage time. Montero takes it, crosses it, but it’s cleared.

44′: Great run by Riley down the right side, battles to get a shot on goal from 8 yards out, but Thornton parries it wide. On the corner kick, Taylor Graham wins it but heads it over.

42′: Zakuani down after a hard foul. Hard cross by Alonso mishandled by Thornton. Montero gets to the ball as it drops, but his toe-poke on the rebound rolls inches wide. Wow, very close there.

40′: Another shot for Chivas, but a weak header by Jazic is easily handled. Gonzalez and Riley have each put in solid halves for Seattle so far.

39′: First solid chance for the visitors, but Braun’s shot from the right side is saved comfortably by Keller.

36′: Chivas USA corner kick cleared by Sturgis.

34′: Seattle earns a corner kick and Alonso takes it again. Tries to find Marshall on the back post, but the big defender is held down a little. No call despite protests.

32′: Keller definitely hasn’t had to do much so far.

30′: MISS! Jaqua with an open shot at the top of the box, lays it off to Fernandez, but his drive is wide.

29′: I should note, Chivas USA has a nice contingent of traveling fans. Maybe 50 or so.

26′: Montero with the steal, feed Zakuani in front of the goal from 25 yards. His low drive is saved well by Thornton.

25′: Low shot by Nagamura rolls wide of the goal. Didn’t have much on that one.

22′: Pseudo-bicycle kick attempt by Jaqua on a Montero cross. Not quite on goal, but the crowd liked it.

21′: Sturgis is up, but is shaken. Nagamura back on with a bandage on his head. Waiting for a zombie reference…

20′: Sturgis down on the ground in pain. Stoppage as he gets treatment too.

19′: Alonso swings in a nice cross from the right side after Flaco is fouled. Is he taking some set pieces now too?

16′: Nagamura writhing in pain, grabbing his head. Stoppage here as he gets looked at.

13′: Flare smoke on the field now. Remember, that’s Seattle’s first goal against Chivas in five game.

10′: GOAL SEATTLE! Zakuani gets a nice feed from Montero to break free on the left wing, stumbles a bit at first, then takes it to the endline before passing to Nate Jaqua in front of the net for the tap-in score. Sounders 1-0 Chivas USA

7′: Montero offside on the near side. Looked close.

5′: Corner kick Sounders. Sturgis looks for Graham, but it’s cleared. Another coming. Well overhit, out for a throw in.

4′: Great long pass from Sturgis frees Zakuani on the left wing. Zakuani’s cross to Alonso in front of the goal is cleared.

3′: Braun muscles past Graham and makes a move past Marshall, but curiously passes it off inside of going at goal. I wonder if Schmid is slightly re-thinking benching his starting centerbacks at all…

2′: Seattle formation something like this:

1′: And we’re off!

Pregame: Here’s the walkout. Sounders FC in bright yellow. Chivas USA in all blue. Kickoff in a few moments.

Pregame: According to my Twitter feed, Columbus came back from an earlier deficit to beat a 10-man D.C. United 2-1 in extra time in the other Open Cup semifinal.

The Crew hasn’t been to a USOC final since 2002 and will be on the road regardless of who wins tonight’s semi here between Seattle and Chivas USA.

Pregame: Here we go. We’re about 30 minutes from kickoff. The lineups are in (and posted below) and the teams are warming up. Seattle will be in electricity yellow again tonight — as has become their uniform combination of choice in non-MLS play.

Should be a fun night. The crowd is filling in and getting more enthusiastic with every passing minute. Ricardo Salazar will be the official in the middle tonight.
