FINAL: Sounders FC 2, C.D. Marathon 0, CCL game thread

FINAL. Sounders FC 2-0 Marathon. Mike Fucito is the hero with two goals. We’ll see how that ankle feels. More to come later.

90′: Four minutes of stoppage time.

88′: This one is winding down without much action.

83′: Leo Gonzalez subs on for Montano.

80′: Writing duties starting to take over now. Fucito deemed to have a left ankle sprain.

76′: I have a feeling Seattle won’t let up in the final 15 minutes considering the leads its blown in this competition.

73′: Marathon sub: Diamond on for Amarilla.

72′: Marathon sub: Flores on for Milton Palacios. Moments later Boss punches out a cross well, but he’s hammered on the play. He’ll get treatment.

71′: Nyassi subs on for Fucito.

70′: Fucito down with an injury. The crowd chants his name as he receives treatment.

68′ — GOAL SEATTLE! Mike Fucito with a beauty of a free kick from 20 yards. Goalkeeper Vallencillo doesn’t even move.

65′: Announced attendance, 11,768. That’s got to be a record-low for a Sounders FC match here at Qwest.

62′: Seattle sub: Peter Vagenas on for Alvaro Fernandez. His first action since July 28 against Metapan.

59′: Boss a little shaky coming off his line, but he clears the danger.

58′: Good chance for Marathon as forward Carlos Mejia sets up Berrios, but his 20 yard shot is way high.

55′: Hopeful shot from 40-some yards by Marathon captain Mario Berrios is well off target.

52′: MISS! Montano with an open look on goal but it’s saved well. He gets another chance, and it slips past Vallencillo (think Montero’s goal at home v. Metapan), but the goalkeeper has enough time to go back at snag it.

48′: Montano down and in pain. He’ll need treatment. Estrada comes over to help translate his issues to the trainer. After a few minutes he’s up and at ’em again.

47′: Montano rises well to head a Scott cross on goal, but it’s right at Vallencillo.

46′: And we’re off in the second half. Don’t see any changes, but Levesque looks like he’s more of a left winger and Montano is like a forward.

Halftime.: Mike Fucito, two starts, two goals. Here are some stats:

Shots: SEA 3, MAR 4

Shots on goal: SEA 2, MAR 1

Fouls: SEA 6, MAR 6

Offsides: SEA 2, MAR 1

Corner kicks: SEA 8, MAR 1

Saves: SEA 0, MAR 1

Halftime. Sounders FC 1-0 Marathon. There’s the whistle and Seattle takes the lead to the locker room. Opportunistic goal by Fucito, who has been very good all game. More to come in a bit.

45′: One minute of stoppage time.

44′: Marathon frustrated on offense. Not able to create much.

41′: Fernandez with a good move to find space in the Marathon box, but before he can shoot the ball is tackled away well.

40′: Graham and Marshall have each had some very authoritative headers in the back.

37′: Estrada earns a corner. Seattle has been clearly the better side in the first half. Levesque whistled for the foul.

32′: Dangerous free kick for Marathon after a Fernandez foul, but Scott heads it out.

29′: First good chance comes for Marathon, but Graham blocks the shot out for a corner. It’s flicked into the danger zone, but the shot is cleared.

28′: Montano with a teasing cross, but no one’s there.

25′: Fucito continues to impress whenever he gets on the field. Nice to see he hasn’t missed a beat after the long layoff with the knee injury.

21′ — GOAL SEATTLE! Mike Fucito gets behind the Marathon backline, defenders appealing for a call that’s never coming, and the second-year forward finishes the open chance to give the Sounders a 1-0 lead.

21′: Vallencillo down after the last corner kick. He’s getting treatment, but should be OK. Short break here.

20′: Two more corner kicks for the Sounders. Two more missed opportunities.

17′: Fernandez with an incredible flick outside the Marathon box, fires a good shot that’s saved very well by Vallencillo. Definitely the moment of the game so far. The ensuring corner kick is cleared for another. Fernandez heads the second effort, but it’s off target.

16′: For some reason there appear to be a handful of Monterrey fans here.

15′: David Estrada struggling a bit early on. Marathon not making Seattle pay for sloppiness yet.

13′: Another corner kick for the Sounders, Montano earns it and takes it, but it’s punched out well by Vallencillo.

11′: Good defensive work from Montano, which hasn’t always been his specialty.

8′: We just got word the Marathon lineup submitted was incorrect. Orlin Vallencillo is starting in goal, not Shane Orio.

7′: Boss involved for the first time. Comes out well to gather a heavy through-ball. He’ll be off to Puerto Rico after this one.

5′: Levesque whistled offside as he sets up Fucito. Sounders the aggressors early.

4′: Wahl and Fucito combine, but the right-footed cross from the forward is off target.

2′: Crowd starting to fill in a little. Definitely quieter in here. Seattle earns an early corner — taken by Fucito — but nothing comes of it. On the rebound, Fucito fires a shot well off target.

1′: And we’re off!

Fucito and Levesque up top. Fernandez and Seamon in the middle, with Montano and Estrada on the flanks.

Pregame: Here’s the walkout. Seattle in yellow. Marathon in green. Refs in red. Not a good night to be red-green colorblind.

Pregame: Tonight’s referee, Paul Ward, was the one who sent off Terry Boss in the Celtic friendly. Remember that one…?

Pregame: The starting lineups are being announced now. Crowd is very thin.

Pregame: I hear the Issaquah Soccer Club sold 1,000 tickets to its membership for tonight’s match. Impressive. Could be close to 10% of the entire attendance tonight.

Pregame: Word is the feed on the CCL website should work, but we’ll wait and see…

Pregame: Teams warming up now as we’re about 25 minutes from kickoff. Sounders will be in electricity yellow and Marathon is in green right now. In my opinion, the Qwest Field turf looks the worst it has all season. The Seahawks played the Chargers here three days ago, remember. Thankfully there are no football lines.

Pregame: In case you haven’t heard, this game will not be broadcast on the FOX Soccer Channel. FSC made a late change this afternoon to air the Columbus-Municipal game instead. There will be a replay on Seattle’s match at 1 a.m.
