The U.S. Open Cup trophy is in the building

thecup.JPGWe’re about an hour and a half from kickoff here at Qwest Field. The shiny trophy is being displayed on a table at midfield, waiting to be played for. Looks like the capacity with be similar to league games, just with no upper deck seating.

Certainly you would think Sounders FC is the favorite tonight. The franchise has never lost in the Open Cup and has also never lost to Columbus (including a 4-0 beat down in Crew Stadium a couple weeks ago). It will be interesting to see how the lineups look, especially with a limit of five international players for each side that’s unique to this tournament.

I’ve predicted a 2-0 win for Seattle below, which would be another banner moment for this club. It would also reintroduce the hopes of a prestigious “double” — I believe only three MLS teams have won the Open Cup and the MLS Cup in the same season.

Anyways, I’ll post lineups here when they become available — yes, Terry Boss is here — and will have a live thread running during the game. Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments section.
