U.S. U-17 men’s national team coming to Seattle

ussoccer.jpgUPDATE: Turns out U.S. Soccer and I were a little confused. The Sounders FC-Chivas USA game is Friday. Thanks to a reader for pointing that out.

UPDATE No. 2: The Friday game will be closed to the public.

Here’s a snippet from a recent press release from U.S. Soccer regarding the U-17 USMNT. The link was passed along by an eagle-eyed reader.

[T]he team will travel across the country to Seattle, Wash., for a match up against Crossfire Premier on the evening of Wednesday, Oct. 13, at Husky Soccer Stadium. On Oct. 16 15, the U.S. will round out its trip with a match against Seattle Sounders FC, serving as the undercard for the MLS game between the Sounders and Chivas USA.

To sum up, the Sounders FC academy team will be taking on the U.S. U17s at Qwest Field next Saturday Friday. I’ll try to get more information from the team on this one.

Until then, here’s some other Sounders related news:

— First up, Fredy Montero was named the No. 1 man in the 24 Under 24 series running on the league website. No real surprise in my opinion. He’s a legitimate MVP candidate.

— Next, Sanna Nyassi was appropriately named U.S. Open Cup player of the round for his two-goal performance in the final. That’s three rounds in a row a Sounder won, with Nate Jaqua winning in the quarterfinals and semifinals.

— Lastly, Steve Zakuani won MLS Goal of the Week by an overwhelming margin. Though on Twitter the midfielder said an ex-teammate probably deserved it. To be fair, Seattle fans make sure their guys win every such award. Pretty sure Kasey Keller sweeps all the Save of the Week awards when he’s nominated.

Anyways, not a bad time to be a Sounder…
