FINAL: Sounders FC 2, Kansas City Wizards 1, game thread

FINAL. Sounders FC holds on for a 2-1 win on the road and clinches a playoff berth. Not sure how they did it tonight. More to come.

90′: Kamara hits the post! 4 minutes of stoppage time.

89′: Seattle sub: Marshall for Nyassi.

84′: Penalty! Parke takes out Bunbury in the box. Arnaud steps up. GOAL! Finishes to his left. It’s 2-1 Seattle.

81′: Jaqua booked. Arnaud was a couple minutes ago.

78′: GOAL SEATTLE! Didn’t see much of what happened, but Alvaro Fernandez weaves some magic in the K.C. defense and fires a shot past Nielsen for the goal.

77′: Good run by Bunbury, Ianni blocks the shot out for a corner. Nkufo clears the set piece.

74: Seattle sub: Fernandez on for Zakuani.

73: K.C. sub: Zusi in for Jewsbury. Wizards stay on the attack as a cross bounces just past the far post.

70′: Stugis swings in a dangerous cross that skips by everyone. Moments later Kamara blasts a shot that just misses high and wide.

68′: K.C. sub: Wolff in for Smith.

66′: GOAL SEATTLE! Nyassi plays a 1-2 with Jaqua and fires a shot on goal that’s saved by Nielsen. Nyassi gets the rebound however and fires it inside the far post. He does it again!

65′: Seattle sub: Jaqua for Montero.

63′: Bunbury booked. Didn’t see what happened but Sturgis is down. Milking the clock.

61′: Montero knocked to the ground and grabs the ball. Called for a hand ball. Then delays the restart and is booked. He might be another caution from suspension.

60′: Wizards continue to dominate but can’t get much on goal. Seattle gives it up every third touch. As a type that, Arnaud gets a clean look but fires his shot high.

56′: Smith cross earns K.C. a C.K. But Arnaud’s effort is right at Keller.

53′: Pretty ugly game, I must say…

49′: Conrad can’t get much on a header and it’s out for a goal kick. Wizards continue to attack.

46′: Away we go in the second half. No subs for Seattle. K.C. looks the same as well.

Halftime: Stats flatter the Sounders a bit.

Shots: SEA 3, KC 5

Shots on goal: SEA 0, KC 2

Saves: SEA 2, KC 0

Fouls: SEA 7, KC 8

Corner kicks: SEA 1, KC 1

Offsides: SEA 1, KC 1

Halftime: After one minute of stoppage time we’re tied 0-0 at the break. Kansas City the better side in the first half but this result would put Seattle through to the playoffs. More to come.

44′: Seattle earns a corner kick, but it’s cleared well by Conrad.

41′: Sounders hoping to get into the break at 0-0.

37′: Great chances for each side. On a corner kick, Besler had a nice header on goal but it’s right at Keller. On the other side Montero gets free for a shot, but its inches wide.

35′: K.C. cross from the left is headed by Bunbury off the crossbar!

28′: Alonso booked for persistent infringement on a foul on Arnaud. One more booking and he gets a suspension, I believe.

25′: Decent buildup for Seattle as Zakuani bursts up the left. Montero gets it and crosses it into the box, but Zakuani was called for a handball. Looked close.

23′: Keller with a booming punt. Takes one hop and is out for a Wizards’ goal kick.

21′: So far this has the feel of the earlier game against K.C. on April 17. Sounders not the better side on the night but hanging in there to keep it level.

18′: Kamara with a shot wide of goal.

15′: Seattle puts something together. After ref Kevin Stott blocks a Nkufo pass, Zakuani gets it on the left, but Montero is flagged offside on the cross.

14′: The Wizards are desperate and playing like it. Seattle absorbing a lot of pressure right now. Ryan Smith doesn’t punish the Sounders backline with a wayward cross, however.

12′: Still sorting out issues. K.C. defender Matt Besler had a good header on goal — the best chance so far — but Keller stops him.

5′: Hopefully this connection holds. K.C. with the better of the early action. Kamara had a chance for a cross but shanked it into the stands.

1′: And we’re off! Might have to bear with me, my internet connection is in and out.

Pregame: Here’s the walkout. Seattle in the traditional green-blue-green combination. Keller in black. K.C. in blue-white-blue, unless it’s purple. Differentiating between blue and purple is a tough one.

Pregame: About 25 or so Sounders FC fans just in front of the pressbox. Away support continues to impress.

Pregame: We’re about 15 minutes from kickoff in this one. The teams have wrapped up warmups and the crowd is filling in. SSFC technical director Chris Henderson was doing some pregame TV work here, he had many great seasons as a Wizard.
