FINAL: Seattle Sounders FC 2, Chivas USA 1, game thread

Final. Sounders FC wins 2-1. Jesus Padilla with a late header goal for the visitors. More to come.

90′: Three minutes of added time.

87′: Jaqua in for Montero.

85′: Montero booked. He’ll be suspended for the finale in Houston.

82′: Keller somewhat tested for the first time on a long range shot by Zizzo. Handles it well.

76′: Chivas sub: Zizzo in for Maldonado. Alonso got treatment after getting caught on the knee. Looks to be OK.

66′: It’s been a couple games since Seattle held a team to zero. About 25 minutes to a 12th shutout.

62′: SAVE! MISS! Zakuani heads a pretty cross that’s saved well by Thornton. Sturgis has a wide-open rebound attempt, but missed wide.

60′: Seattle sub: Fernandez in for Nyassi. On the other end, Maldonado had a goal called back correctly for offside.

59′: Zakuani booked for barking at the ref. He’s been doing that all game. No surprise he gets a card here.

58′: Chivas isn’t playing that poorly. Seattle just on another level right now.

53′: Thornton and Nyassi nearly collide. That would’ve been one-sided.

51′: Seattle sub: Marshall in for Ianni. Wonder if an injury was involved.

47′: Apparently Nagamura was booked in the first half. I missed it.

46′: And we’re off!

Halftime: Some stats…

Shots: SEA 6, CHV 6

Shots on goal: SEA 2, CHV 0

Fouls: SEA 3, CHV 4

Offsides: SEA 3, CHV 0

Corner kicks: SEA 3, CHV 3

Saves: SEA 0, CHV 0

Halftime. Sounders FC with a commanding 2-0 lead here and deservedly so. The home side has been far and away the better team so far. More to come.

45′: One minutes of stoppage time.

39′: Sturgis corner kick finds Nkufo on the far post, but the big forward way wide with the shot. Hard foul from Trujillo on Zakuani, should’ve earned a card.

38′: Alonso single-handedly turns a Chivas USA counterattack into a counterattack for Seattle, but Zakuani is called offside.

34′: Nkufo on the breakaway, offside.

30′: This Sounders FC team is playing some special soccer these days…

25′: GOAL SEATTLE! Montero holds it up on the left, sets up Zakuani, who cuts it inside to Osvaldo Alonso. The Cuban knocks it in to the far post for his first goal of the season.

23′: Pretty scrappy out there. Montero draws a foul on the left side. It’ll set up up a Sturgis cross.

19′: Very entertaining brand of soccer being played. Up and down stuff.

13′: 10 goals for Zakuani ties a team high with Montero.

9′: GOAL SEATTLE! Jeff Parke does extremely well to win a ball as Chivas tries to clear. The defender pokes it ahead to Steve Zakuani, who gets by a handful of defenders with his speed, takes a hit but stays on his feet, dribbles around Thornton and hammers it home. Sounders up 1-0.

7′: Chivas looking good too. Earns a corner kick that’s cleared out for another. Eventually out for a goal kick.

5′: Seattle looking pretty good so far. Misses a good chance on a counterattack however.

2′: Nyassi cross deflects to Montero. Shot blocked, cleared out for a corner kick. Ianni’s header wide.

1′: And we’re off!

Pregame: Here’s the walkout. Electric atmosphere tonight. Seattle in the green-blue-green combo. Chivas still wearing coats, appears to be in dark blue. Nevermind, it’s the red and white stripes. Should’ve guessed.

Pregame: Golden Scarf to Hope Solo.

Pregame: Two Open Cup trophies are being proudly displayed behind the south-end goal. Moments ago the 2010 U.S. Open Cup championship banner was unveiled.

Pregame: Late start tonight and we’re probably 20 minutes from kickoff. Seattle fielding a first-team lineup tonight despite having clinched a playoff berth. It’s all about rhythm and momentum for them now.
