FINAL: Sounders FC 1, Houston Dynamo 2, game thread

Final. There’s the whistle and Houston wins 2-1 here. It’s the first time this season they’ve won back-to-back games. Disappointing end for Seattle but the Sounders at least have the playoffs to look forward to.

90′: Three minutes of stoppage time. Ianni with a close-range shot but it somehow bounces over the crossbar. Not sure how he missed that one. Or Nkufo earlier for that matter.

88′: Nyassi makes a run and fires a hopeful shot. Doesn’t get much on it though.

84′: A couple Dynamo subs connect when Cruz finds Ching on a cross, but the forward’s shot is wide.

82′: Houston sub: Danny Cruz in for Davis. Gonzalez out with a right calf cramp.

78′: MISS! Nkufo wide open in front of the net. Whiffs on a shot from a couple yards out. Wow. A couple minutes later, James Riley fires a hard shot saved well by Deric. Then Alonso fires just wide!

76′: Dangerous free kick service from Alonso earns a corner kick.

73′: Houston sub: Brian Ching in for Weaver. Attendance: 23,990.

72′: Corner kick cleared out by Jaqua for another. Serioux gets to the ball but pops it up to Keller.

70′: Nyassi appears to get behind the Dynamo defense but he’s whistled offside. On the other end, Ashe gets around Gonzalez again, but Ianni clears the cross for a corner kick. Leo down on the play and will be subbed off for Tyson Wahl.

67′: Houston sub: Serioux on for the injured Robinson.

64′: Long throw-in finds Oduro in front of the Sounders FC goal but he can’t get much on the shot. Also a substitution for Seattle: Fernandez in for Sturgis.

61′: Oduro collects the ball in the box, turns a fires a shot way wide.

60′: Marshall with a hard foul on Weaver away from goal. Fans want a yellow card.

56′: On a quick restart, Leo sends in a cross to Jaqua, but his shot is fired right at Deric.

53′: Sounders FC defense less than stellar going into the playoffs. L.A.’s and Salt Lake’s offense know what they’re doing.

46′: GOAL HOUSTON. Brad Davis set up Mike Chabala on the left side, and the UW grad swings in a cross to Cam Weaver for the headed goal. Dynamo up 2-1.

46′: And we’re off in the second half. Marshall in for Parke, probably to avoid the chance of a second yellow card and a suspension.

Halftime: Some stats…

Shots: SEA 4, HOU 5

Shots on goal: SEA 4, HOU 1

Fouls: SEA 3, HOU 7

Offsides: SEA 1, HOU 5

Corner kicks: SEA 0, HOU 7

Saves: SEA 0, HOU 3

Halftime. Sounders FC 1-1 Houston Dynamo. Crazy half there but we saw some great goals. Stott missed a couple penalty kicks for my money and issued some bizarre cards. The score is probably fair. Believe it or not, Houston hasn’t won a game this season when tied at the half (0-4-6).

45′: Two minutes of stoppage time.

44′: Weaver with a dangerous flick on to Oduro, but he’s offside. Moments later it looked like Jaqua and Cameron hit heads, the Houston midfielder got the worst of it and needs treatment.

41′: Wild stuff going on in the penalty box. First Sturgis and Hainault go at it. Then Robinson and Gonzalez mess around. Leo gets booked amid the chaos.

39′: Eddie Robinson does well to win a header on a Houston corner kick, but he pushes it wide.

35′: Jaqua had a 2v1 chance with Nkufo but he can’t get him the ball. Then Zakuani is through on goal, appears to be taken out by GK Deric, but there’s no call and the Sounders FC midfielder is booked for diving. Hmmmmm…

33′: Ex-USL Sounder Cam Weaver into the book after fouling Parke. Probably persistent infringement there.

32′: Nyassi offside by about 8 yards. Continues his run all the way to goal and shoots. Could’ve easily been booked for time wasting.

29′: Jeff Parke goes into the book with a yellow card.

27′: GOAL HOUSTON. Perhaps a deserved equalizer comes two minutes later as Oduro flicks a pass to Geoff Cameron to put him through on goal. The young midfielder then buries a shot to the far post past Keller.

25′: NO CALL! Parke clearly denies Weaver’s header on goal with his hand. Ref calls for a corner kick and Nkufo clears it. A minute later Houston with another corner kick and Weaver wins it well but heads it over.

24′: Nyassi pressures Deric and blocks the clearance, but it’s out for a goal kick. Could’ve deflected into the goal easily.

23′: Great combination play by Seattle in the offensive third, can’t get a shot on goal though.

21′: Houston’s best stuff coming through Ashe. Not much elsewhere.

18′: Nkufo with a couple moves, finds some space for a shot but his left-footed effort is right at Deric.

17′: Ashe burns Gonzalez a couple more times over there. Not a good matchup for the Costa Rican.

11′: GOAL SEATTLE! Jaqua has an open shot blocked by Deric, he gathers the rebound and sets up Riley for 20 yards out for a powerful one-time shot to the upper 90. Wow, what a strike!

10′: SAVE! Riley gets through on the right side and plays in a great cross to Jaqua. His well-taken shot on goal is stopped by Deric!

8′: Nkufo tries to play Nyassi through, but it’s a little long.

6′: Just announced that Jair Marrufo indeed isn’t the referee today. It’s Kevin Stott.

4′: Ashe burns Gonzalez on the right side. His cross is hit with too much pace and isn’t controlled by Oduro.

3′: Nearly a two-minute delay to clean up streamers. We’re underway again.

1′: And we’re off! Streamers and balloons all over the place. We’re delayed as they clean it up.

Pregame: Uh oh. A bunch of balloon launch out of the stands after the national anthem. Will any end up on the field?

Pregame: Sounders indeed in blue (with green shorts and blue socks) to avoid clashing with the Houston orange-white-orange home combo. He’s the walkout. Kickoff in a couple minutes.

Pregame: Houston video thanking the fans cut short for a performance by the Dynamo Girls (to a song by Justin Bieber? nope it’s a montage).

Pregame: The crowd is starting to fill in on this beautiful Texas afternoon. There are some football lines on the field, which is a little disappointing, but the surface looks great.
