The seeding scenarios heading into the weekend were crazy and complex to be sure. Two stoppage-time goals in the Real Salt Lake-Colorado game late Saturday night only made things crazier.
Sounders FC was mere seconds away from playing Columbus in the Eastern Conference semifinals until a late-game breakdown by the Rapids. Instead Seattle will wait and see what happens in the Los Angeles-FC Dallas game Sunday.
Here’s how I understand things:
— If L.A. wins or ties against Dallas, Sounders FC plays the Galaxy in the first round.
— If L.A. loses to Dallas, Sounders FC plays Real Salt Lake in the first round.
Regardless of the opponent, the first leg of the Western Conference semifinal will be next Sunday, Oct. 31, at 5 p.m. at Qwest Field. Expect the second leg to be the following weekend.
Elsewhere, first-round pairings in the East are set. Top seeded New York will play San Jose. Columbus will play Colorado.
1. New York v. 4. San Jose
2. Columbus v. 3 Colorado
1. Los Angeles/Real Salt Lake v. 4. Seattle
2. Real Salt Lake/Los Angeles v. 3. FC Dallas
What do you think of how things have played out? Wish Colorado would’ve held onto that late lead to put Seattle in the East?
