Sounders FC coach Sigi Schmid quotes from Friday

(On preparing for Galaxy offense and Donovan playing up top and out wide) “Obviously we have got to prepare for it both ways. We have got to prepare for him to play up top or wide. But it doesn’t matter where he plays, whether it’s top or wide, we know that he is an influential player on their team and so is David Beckham and so is Edson Buddle. So wherever they are on the field we have got to make sure we keep them in check. It alters it a little bit so we have got our guess at this stage but we will see on Sunday.”

(On Galaxy defense and not knowing who they’ll start) “Well, we know pretty much three out of the four. You know Omar Gonzalez is going to be there, [Todd] Dunivant is going to be there and [Sean] Franklin is going to be there. The question is who they are going to play inside. Is [Gregg] Berhalter back? He’s a very good passer of the ball, great organizer, good leader. Are they going to have somebody like [A.J.] DeLaGarza? At this stage, he is probably a little more athletic, a little faster, a little more aggressive defensively. Again, we have got to be prepared for both options. We know what we are going to do no matter who is there and just be prepared for what comes.”

(On Terry Boss) “We wanted to see how he got through training yesterday, how he felt this morning. He felt great this morning, got through training today pretty well. So if he feels great tomorrow morning he should be on the bench for us.”

(On previous results this season against Galaxy) “Certainly we are not overconfident going against L.A. based upon the two results that we have played. Sometimes I think it’s better to play against a team that you haven’t had success against because the motivation of your team . . . If I have got to rant and rave in the locker room to get them motivated then it’s too late.”
