FINAL: Sounders FC 1, Los Angeles Galaxy 2, game thread

Final. After some narrowly missed chances late, Sounders FC season was whistled over after a 2-1 defeat here against Los Angeles, which moves on to host Dallas in the conference final. More to come.

90′: Jaqua nearly redirects in a Marshall header on a corner kick. Whoa…

86′: GOAL SEATTLE. Zakuani pulls one back, but it’s too little too late.

83′: MISS! Landon Donovan a blur as he sprints through the Seattle defense. His open shot sails high.

80′: LA sub: Dunivant in for Magee.

77′: Seattle sub: Jaqua on for Ianni.

74: LA sub: Birchall for Kovalenko.

72′: Montero open! His deflected shot sails just wide. How has Seattle not scored yet?

71′: LA sub: Bowen in for Buddle.

67′: SAVE! Zakuani free on goal but Ricketts stops him.

64′: Seattle sub: Fucito on for Sturgis.

62′: Marshall hits the deck after a collision with Buddle but L.A. plays on. After a shot goes wide, Marshall expresses his displeasure with the ref and Buddle. And Beckham too as he walks off the field getting treatment.

60′: Montero continues to press the action. Has probably taken four shots in the last 5 minutes.

57′: MISS! Montero with an open shot from eight yards out but he skies it!

54′: Gonzalez and Beckham get into it a couple times on the boards. The Sounders FC defenders get physical and then gets a warning.

49′: Fernandez and Ricketts collide and it looks like the L.A. goalkeeper got the worst of it. He’ll get treatment.

46′: And we’re off in the second half. Fernandez in for Nyassi.

Halftime. After one minutes of stoppage time, referee Baldomero Toledo calls an end to the first half. Los Angeles all but booked its trip to the conference finals with a phenomenal effort in the first 45 minutes. Galaxy up 2-0 in the game, 3-0 on aggregate.

45′: Lots of excitement for a Beckham free kick. He curls it wonderfully but just misses the far post as Keller extends his dive.

39′: Lewis nearly finds Magee in front of the net for a third goal. Still seems like L.A. is going to get the next one. Fernandez warming up on the Sounders sideline. I’d think he’s coming in for Nyassi, who’s had another poor showing.

36′: Dangerous free kick for Seattle. Sturgis tried to find Nkufo on the far post, but not much comes of it.

33′: Sounders FC has now been outscored 10-1 by L.A. in league games.

32′: SAVE! Alonso with a open shot but it’s hit hard at Ricketts.

31′: Just can’t see Sounders FC scoring three goals in the last 60 minutes. It was a steep mountain to climb after the first goal…

27′: GOAL LA! Donovan earns a dangerous free kick after being fouled by Nyassi. Beckham curls in a great cross that headed in by Omar Gonzalez on the near post. He completely lost Ianni in defensive coverage. Galaxy with a commanding 3-0 aggregate lead.

25′: That Buddle goal was very similar to the one Sounders FC conceded in stoppage time to RSL early in the year. Marking was tight, but the other player (then Saborio on Evans) willed his way to the header for the goal.

24′: Lots of work to be done now by the visiting Seattle side.

22′: Buddle with another dangerous header, but the flag was up. Hard to tell which team needs the goals. Galaxy up two goals on aggregate and dominating.

19′: GOAL LA! Donovan and Lewis combine well. Ianni forced to clear it out for a corner kick. Beckham’s service is headed in by Buddle! Tyrone Marshall in defense…

17′: Kovalenko with his first borderline dirty tackle of the night on Alonso.

16′: Zakuani tugs on Franklin’s shirt to try and get in behind. Whistled for the foul. Obvious call.

13′: Miscommunication between Marshall and Keller leads to an L.A. corner kick. It’s dangerous but cleared. Moments later the Galaxy earn another. Beckham’s effort is nearly headed by Buddle, then cleared.

12′: Sturgis playing very high. Trying to combine and get involved in the attacking third.

11′: Beckham cross curls into Magee, but he can’t get a lot on the shot. It’s right at Keller.

10′: Omar Gonzalez (I guess I need to clarify on that last name from now on) is a beast in the air. Already with a handful of authoritative headers. The most recent clears a dangerous Riley cross.

8′: Yellow card to David Beckham for a studs-up challenge on Montero.

7′: Gonzalez tried to spring Montero, but Ricketts is off his line to head it clear!

5′: Galaxy pounces on the counter attack. A Buddle header tries to set up Magee but Gonzalez clears it for a corner kick. Gonzalez heads the Beckham effort right at Keller!

4′: L.A. content to defend in the early moments. Sounders FC playing some possession.

3′: Great atmosphere. Three very vocal supporters groups.

2′: Marshall beats Buddle for an early header. I’ve noticed James Riley is flying up the right side when he can. He’ll look to push into the attack.

1′: And we’re off. Seattle going left to right. The smoke from the fireworks spreading throughout the stadium and into the open-air pressbox.

Pregame: Internet connection is off and on for me. I’m crossing my fingers. Lots of fireworks and streamers just before kickoff. We’re moments away here.

Pregame: Not quite a packed house here. Boos reign for the Sounders FC starting lineup.

Pregame: The teams take off to the locker room for final preparations. I expect L.A. to be in the all-white uniforms. Seattle had green shorts and blue socks. I’d think they’d be in the green tops.

Pregame: Kickoff expected around 6:18 p.m. tonight, not 6 p.m. like it’s been announced. As the teams warm up, Seattle coach Sigi Schmid had a long chat with L.A. assistant Cobi Jones. Adrian Hanauer, Chris Henderson and Drew Carey are down on bench. Mike Seamon and Zach Scott look like they traveled, but aren’t in the 18. No sign of Jeff Parke.

Pregame: The lineup card just came out and I’ve posted the starters/reserves in the post below. No huge surprises. Maybe for L.A., one might’ve expected a healthy Dunivant to start.

Pregame: Definitely a healthy contingent of Sounders FC supporters down here and they’re making their presence felt. I see about 200 down to my left, but around 400-500 are expected.

Pregame: I haven’t seen an official lineup card yet, but indications are both teams will play the same starters from the first leg — minus Tyrone Marshall in for the injured Jeff Parke.
