(Here’s a YouTube clip of the save, which I think is a better video player than the league offers)
Seattle goalkeeper Kasey Keller won a handful of Save of the Week awards this season — all via fan vote. So it shouldn’t be a huge surprise that one of those efforts from the Sounders FC captain was picked by the fans as Save of the Year as announced by the league this afternoon.
The winning save was a phenomenal diving stop on Kansas City’s Chance Myers in stoppage time of a 1-0 home win against the Wizards on April 17. Myers got a friendly bounce off the turf and fired a shot from the edge of the six-yard box that seemed destined to tie the game after Mike Fucito’s dramatic go-ahead goal. But Keller’s incredible reactions and skill just pushed the shot wide to preserve the win and the clean sheet.
