Ronaldo denied a wonder goal by teammate, and other links

In an international friendly Wednesday between Portugal and Spain, Cristiano Ronaldo nearly had an incredible goal for the highlight reels. Then Nani, a greedy teammate, tried to steal the glory and headed it in on the goal line.

Too bad he was offside. (Though C-Ron’s little tantrum was nearly as entertaining as the goal would’ve been. And Portugal still won 4-0.)

It wasn’t a big news day but here are some other links:

  • Sounders FC general manager Adrian Hanauer had a Q&A with the team website regarding the Year 2 and offseason plans.

  • Only a couple days remain until the MLS Cup and some USMNT players have their rooting interests: Texas native Clint Dempsey is backing FC Dallas and former Rapid Marcus Hahnemann will cheer for Colorado.

  • Some other notes: Landon Donovan is yet to make a decision on whether he’ll go back to England, the U.S. men’s national team met with Nelson Mandela on the South Africa trip, Vancouver officially announced the Jay DeMerit signing and two FIFA executive committee members were fined and banned for some general wrongdoing leading into the selection of the 2018 and 2022 World Cup hosts.

So is anyone going to Toronto for the big game?
