It took about 15 minutes for Sounders FC to lose two players — Sanna Nyassi and Nathan Sturgis — to Vancouver in the expansion draft. It took less than 24 hours for the Whitecaps to trade each of them away.
First, Nyassi was dealt to MLS Cup champion Colorado for an international roster spot Wednesday. The move appeared to be in motion well in advance according to this story on the Rapids’ team website:
“We had talked a little bit over the last couple of days with both expansion teams to try to figure out the best road to go down,” said [Colorado technical director Paul] Bravo. “We had talked about Sanna (Nyassi) and another player, and we had a deal done for both players ahead of the draft.”
Sturgis will stay north of the border after being traded to Toronto FC early Thursday for a first-round draft pick (No. 8 overall). Vancouver already has the top overall selection in the 2011 SuperDraft.
Any thoughts on the moves after the moves?
