A couple programming notes and some other links too

Hey everybody, apologies for the lack of posts recently. After the expansion draft, I got caught up in the holiday time off, Seahawks coverage and then a furlough day Monday. Not a lot of Sounders FC news in the last couple days, but I gathered some links that might be worthwhile.

Another programming note, I’m taking some time off (Dec. 1-7) for a little vacation. It’s one I’ve planned since I got the job in February — back then I figured this would be the first “open” week after the regular season ended.

To the links:

  • We’ll be having another local PDL team next season: North Sound SeaWolves FC, owned by former Yakima Reds coach Alex Silva.

  • Here’s an ESPN Deportes article apparently confirming that March 26 friendly between Argentina and the U.S. men’s national team in Seattle. No official announcement yet but, man, the proverbial smoke is gathering.

  • Around the league, here’s an old story on ex-Sounder Nathan Sturgis on the Toronto FC team website from an author I’m sure you all know. D.C. United hired promoted interim coach Ben Olsen to full-time, a move first reported by Steve Goff — so he gets the link.

  • On the national front, don’t forget about those World Cup announcements Thursday morning. The U.S. women’s national team was drawn into the WWC on Monday. Also, U.S. national and Seattle native Marcus Hahnemann is apparently falling down the depth chart at Wolverhampton.

  • Lastly, on the day off Monday I got to watch El Clasico and what a match it was. Barcelona put together one of the more complete and dominating performances I’ve ever seen in a big match. In a 5-0 win over Real Madrid, Messi‘s miss in the 6th minute might’ve been the highlight for me. Such skill! Here’s a basic recap, but I’ve embeded the highlights below.

Cheers!
