I’m on Seahawks duty today, but I was able to check in to our live chat with Seattle general manager Adrian Hanauer a couple hours ago. One of the first questions surely caught everyone’s notice:
[Comment From Chris H.Chris H.: ]
What can you tell us about the Swede, Erik Friberg?
Adrian Hanauer: We’re definitely looking at players in Scandanavia. We like Erik. Let’s leave it at that for now.
Hanauer left it at that, but others haven’t. In fact here’s an article on the team website of Friberg’s former team, BK Hacken of Sweden’s Allsvenskan league, that says he has signed a three-year contract with Sounders FC (if the translation is reliable).
According to this player page, he’s a 24-year-old midfielder who’s been playing in the Swedish league for several years.
While the transaction hasn’t been officially announced by Seattle, Hanauer’s comment seems close enough to a confirmation. It certainly would be a move that boosts the depth in midfield and help appease the losses of Nathan Sturgis and Sanna Nyassi. There are also a couple international slots on the Sounders FC roster available.
So what do you think of the move?
