Goalkeepers (2): Kasey Keller, Terry Boss

IN: Chris Seitz (re-entry draft). OUT: Seitz (trade with FC Dallas)

Keller signed a one-year extension and will play one final season in 2011 before retiring. No official word on Boss, but it sounds like he’ll be around and could already be under contract. The team will add a third goalkeeper by the start of the season, but the future of the position post Keller is still in doubt.

Defenders (10): Jhon Kennedy Hurtado, Jeff Parke, James Riley, Leo Gonzalez, Patrick Ianni, Taylor Graham, Tyson Wahl, Zach Scott, Julien Baudet, Danny Earls,

IN: Baudet and Earls (via trade with Colorado). OUT: Tyrone Marshall (re-entry draft)

Looks largely the same right now, but the return of Hurtado will be a huge boost. Right now there are five centerbacks and five fullbacks, which seems a bit high. I’d expect some movement here. Baudet and Earls will have to earn their spots, especially since each are using valuable international slots.

Midfielders (9): Osvaldo Alonso, Brad Evans, Alvaro Fernandez, Steve Zakuani, Mike Seamon, Roger Levesque, David Estrada, Miguel Montano, Erik Friberg

IN: Friberg (international signing). OUT: Nathan Sturgis (expansion draft), Sanna Nyassi (expansion draft), Peter Vagenas (trade with Colorado).

Depth took a hit, but several of the guys on the roster could be considered forward/midfielders and could help on the wing. Getting Evans back will be a welcome sight. Guys like Friberg and Fernandez can play inside and out, so the versatility helps. You know what you get with Zakuani and Alonso, but you’d like to see Montano and/or Estrada take a step forward next season.

Forwards (6): Fredy Montero, Blaise Nkufo, Nate Jaqua, Mike Fucito, Pat Noonan, O’Brian White

IN: White (trade with Vancouver). Out: None.

This group looks pretty solid. Guys like Levesque, Zakuani and others can also push up to this position if needed. Montero and Nkufo, the two DPs, are expected to lead the way. If Jaqua and Fucito stay healthy, they could each push 8-10 goals in all competitions. It will be interested to see how White fits in.

Overall thoughts: Not all these players are under contract through 2011, but there are still only 27 players listed here. Rosters will be at 28 next season, 30 if you include homegrown players (which remains a possibility as well). That said, I’d expect the majority of these guys in Seattle at the start of preseason camp. Don’t surprised to see a handful of others, including familiar faces like Jamel Wallace, Tye Perdido, Lamar Neagle, some academy kids and others.

Let me know if I’ve omitted someone unintentionally…
