Hanauer looking to sell minority stake in Cambridge United

I saw this BBC report a couple hours ago that the board of Cambridge United has decided to put the English fifth-tier club up for sale. I got in touch with stakeholder Adrian Hanauer, who you know as owner/general manager of Sounders FC, and he confirmed the news.

“I have always been a minority investor, and have invested alongside my friend Paul Barry,” Hanauer said in an email. “But football is an expensive endeavor, and both Paul and I have reached a point at which we are no longer interested in investing further. There are individuals out there who will have drive and capacity to take CUFC back up League 2 and beyond.”

Hanauer’s involvement in Cambridge United might be news for some of you, but he has been invested there for a few years. Paul Barry is also a Seattle-based businessman. The club is looking to entertain offers, including from supporters’ trust Cambridge Fans United.
