Sounders FC to host preseason tournament against rivals

Northwest soccer fans will get an early taste of the Cascadia rivalry this preseason when Sounders FC hosts a three-day, round-robin tournament with the Portland Timbers and Vancouver Whitecaps at the Starfire Sports Complex in Tukwila. They’re calling the event a Cascadia Summit, which will be held March 4-6.

Tickets will be $10 per day and go on sale Feb. 1 through SoundersFC.com or by calling (800) 745-3000. Seattle fans can also purchase $18 packages to watch both Sounders FC matches.

The event will also feature a forum with the teams’ staffs and supporters’ groups.

“With Portland and Vancouver joining Seattle in MLS, this marks the beginning of a new era for the game in this region,” said Adrian Hanauer, Sounders FC owner and general manager, in a release. “Together, our clubs wish to bring together our teams and supporters for a time to celebrate our passion for the sport, the spirit of our supporters and the competitiveness of our clubs.”

Portland and Vancouver fans get 500 tickets in sectioned-off areas for their games against Seattle. When the Timbers and Whitecaps plays each other, they’ll get 1,300 apiece.
