The U.S. men’s national team’s first game of 2011 is upon us. The boys will take on Chile at 7 p.m. tonight at the Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif.

Word is about 13,000 tickets have been sold. Interest has seemed kind of tame, might be because there’s no English TV for this one, just and Telefutura.

It’s a shame. Could be a potentially entertaining game and a chance to see some young, up-and-coming Americans. Here are a couple previews. Are you going to watch?

On the local scene

Matt Gaschk has a good roundup of the Jan. 20 Alliance Council meeting on Some interesting info on how those 500 tickets for away fans could be distributed.

— Here are some pictures of Seattle’s SuperDraft picks.

Kasey Keller was booed the other night at a Portland Trailblazers game. Oh this rivalry is going to be something to see. Did you hear Timbers coach John Spencer said he thinks they “will have by far the best atmosphere in Major League Soccer”?

Bunch of MLS links

— The natives in Vancouver are getting restless over season-ticket issues.

— On the business side of things, Houston is trying to figure out what its new stadium will be called. Kansas City is also trying to get a street by its new venue called “Sporting Way”.

— Lots of Colombians in the news these days around the league. The country had two nationals signed by Philadelphia recently and here’s some local reaction to that.

— After getting rid of a bunch of veterans, the Columbus Crew is in need of leadership. That will be at a premium if Jeff Cunningham is indeed signing with ’em.

Pavel Pardo says he’s coming to MLS this season. Chivas USA is in need of players after releasing three, including ex-USL Sounder Maykel Galindo.

— Lastly, Ze Roberto is linked again to the Red Bulls, one writer thinks John Carew might be a good fit over here and a familiar writer caught up with TFC’s Nana Attakora.

Other stuff

— Montreal is preparing for the season with an eye on 2012.

— There’s some drama going on in the second division of American soccer.

— Apparently Brad Friedel has declared bankruptcy. Yeesh.

— The never-say-never Ryan Giggs has an eye on playing another season with Manchester United. Red Devils coach Alex Ferguson commented on Eric Cantona‘s return to soccer with the Cosmos.

— Here’s a profile on the emerging Stuart Holden and his potentially growing role on the USMNT.

— In closing, I don’t have to deal with as much as others, but one writer went so far to track down some nasty online hecklers. Interesting stuff.
