How’s that for a jersey sponsor? Not bad at all.

“Now that Corona sponsors our jerseys, that probably makes us the coolest team in MLS,” said Jimmy Conrad in this team report. “I always thought it was the name on the back that mattered, but now I guess it’s the one on the front,” he joked, gesturing to the Corona script on the new jersey.

Also, anyone think the “other” L.A. team has had a solid offseason? New head coach Robin Fraser comes in with solid reviews from Real Salt Lake. Player acquisitions include: Heath Pearce, Conrad, Alejandro Moreno, Tristan Bowen, etc.

Playoffs maybe? Here are some local links with others after the jump:

— The schedule for the U.S. Open Cup came out Thursday and some think Sounders FC is the tournament’s “savior”. Another writer thinks O’Brian White could be due for a breakout year in Seattle, something that wouldn’t surprise anyone around here.

— Our old friend Jose Romero caught up with Steve Zakuani while they were down in Arizona. Also the Kitsap Pumas’ schedule for 2011 is out.

— Is Portland taking an anti-Seattle approach to its MLS debut?

MLS news

— Checking on the rivals, here’s an update on PGE Park renovations in Portland. Also Whitecaps FC is in desperate need of forwards and there are some unsubstantiated rumors abound. Normally I’m not a big rumor guy, but Vancouver has to be doing something.

— D.C. United’s goalkeeping situation was so dire that assistant coach Pat Onstad came out of retirement to help out. Seriously. Though most Sounders’ fans probably haven’t forgiven him for this. Ben Olsen‘s side also surprisingly cut defender Julius James and traded an international slot to the L.A. Galaxy.

Here’s a Q&A with the aforementioned Pearce and Omar Bravo is getting positive reviews so far in Kansas City.

Going international

— Sports Illustrated’s senior writer Grant Wahl is running for the presidency of FIFA against the old man Sepp Blatter. Elections are June 1 and I think it’s a grand idea. Here’s a video to go along with the campaign.

— Here’s a roundup of Thursday’s Europa League action.

— Lastly, prices are skyrocketing for the Champions League final.
