CONCACAF Champions League is back and other links

CCL.jpgNot a big lead note here, just a reminder that the quarterfinals of the 2010-2011 CONCACAF Champions League kicks off Tuesday night. The match-up we’ll all certainly pay attention to is Real Salt Lake-Columbus Crew, but SI.com’s Steve Davis has a look at some of the other pairings as well.

Other links:

* * *

— The other day New England sent stars Shalrie Joseph and Kevin Alston home from training camp. Might be an interesting year out there. Also, speaking of shenanigans, looks like Philadelphia will be signing Carlos Ruiz, who has been involved in a controversy or two.

Thierry Henry didn’t bring much attention to himself in Red Bulls camp, saying he’s OK not being the go-to guy. Seems like the polar opposite of one Mr. Beckham, who is still yet to join the L.A. Galaxy and made news by buying pies at the end of his Tottenham stint.

— Also, ex-USL Sounder Josh Gardner has signed with Columbus and USMNT national Alejandro Bedoya is training with Birmingham City.

— Elsewhere internationally, Genaro Gattuso was banned four games by UEFA for his head-butting antics against Tottenham, Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola is expected to sign a new deal soon and here’s another Q&A with Eric Cantona (though I guess with his Cosmos involvement that last link could’ve been included with the domestic bunch as well).
