VIDEO: Smack-yourself-in-the-face-funny clip and other links

The soccer world is full of crazy characters and ridiculous antics. This one might top them all — and that’s saying something.

Here are some other links:

— On the local scene, here’s an update on academy product DeAndre Yedlin, who’s off to Akron and already has some fans excited for a potential first-team future. Catch up with UW men’s soccer coach Jamie Clark in this clip. Also, Blaise Nkufo was quoted in this story, written in a language I don’t understand.

Adam Nowland, an English veteran of several top clubs, has joined SeaWolves FC up north. Also, here’s a great in-depth look at Zak Ibsen, a former MLS veteran and now a member of Sounders FC’s beach soccer team.

— A quick look at the rivals, Vancouver is starting to hype up the 2011 season. Portland also got its first-ever win as an MLS club.

— Elsewhere around the league, our old friend Jose Romero wrote this piece on K.C.’s Omar Bravo for the Associated Press. Fanhouse has a story, insights and pics of all the MLS uniforms for the 2011 season. Columbus and Salt Lake didn’t exactly play to a thriller in the CCL opener.

— Lastly, the U.S. U17s qualified for the World Cup. One writers opines that the NBA is becoming like the EPL and here’s a bit of skill you shouldn’t miss.

— And since I’m a sucker for the UEFA Champions League, here are the first-leg scores so far in the round of 16 (home team listed first):

* * *

AC Milan 0-1 Tottenham (remembered more for the Gattuso fit)

Valencia 1-1 Schalke 04

Arsenal 2-1 Barcelona (instant classic)

AS Roma 2-3 Shaktar Donetsk (Roma coach Claudio Ranieri later resigns)

FC Copenhagen 0-2 Chelsea

Lyon 1-1 Real Madrid (Los Merengues always have an interesting time there)

Inter Milan 0-1 Bayern Munich

Marseille 0-0 Manchester United (yawn)
