Report: Manchester United coming to town July 20 or 21

UPDATE 4:06 p.m. — Sounders FC declined to comment on this report.

Two ongoing mysteries in Sounders FC camp have been: 1) who is the trialist? and 2) who is the team’s opponent for this year’s international friendly?

Question #2 has gone unanswered for months and it’s possible that there’s finally an answer. EPL Talk is reporting, by way of an unnamed source, that Manchester United will play Sounders FC either July 20 or 21.

The post also says the Red Devils will make stops in Chicago, New York (for the MLS All-Star Game) and Washington D.C. (against Barcelona).

While unconfirmed as of now, this certainly makes perfect sense for Sounders FC. In fact, I think most Seattle fans expected this opponent in the end. The date is nestled between two home games and we already knew Sir Alex Ferguson and Co. would be in the U.S. this summer.

This would certainly satisfy the promise that the friendly would be against one of the top five teams in the world.

What do you think of the report?
