Cascadia Summit Day 3, Seattle-Vancouver, live thread

cascadiadaythree1.JPGI asked Schmid if this was an embarrassing weekend, considering the losses and the goals allowed:

“No, it’s a motivating weekend,” he replied. “It’s not embarrassing. Embarrassing would mean that we’re going to stick our tail between our legs and we’re looking to hide and run away. We’re not looking to hide and run away from anything. So if anything it serves as motivation for the next time we play them. So it’s a very motivating weekend. It’s motivating for us as a staff to continue to get after it and work hard, and it should be very motivating to the players.”

Final. Whitecaps 3, Sounders FC 2. Seattle swept in the Cascadia Summit by two expansion teams that also happen to be hated Pac NW rivals. Three more soft goals. Injury to Fucito. Not a good day. More to come.

90′: Six minutes of stoppage time.

86′: Seattle stays on the attack, mostly through Montano, Estrada and Zakuani. The Sounders earned a dangerous free kick, but Alonso’s shot was blocked.

79′: MISS! Estrada leaps high for a header, he’s wide open at the far post, but can’t get it on target.

77′: GOAL SEATTLE! Roger Levesque with a nice cross and Miguel Montano with the tap-in goal. Estrada also given an assist. It’s 3-2 Vancouver.

76′: Friberg and Tetteh out. Alonso and Zakuani in.

74′: Scott rises well to win a header, but he can’t direct the corner kick on goal.

68′: Looks like Scott and Levesque hit heads. One of them directed a shot on goal in the collision that Cannon had to do very well to save.

65′: Starfire attendance: 3,100

62′: Miguel Montano subs in for O’Brian White and gets a huge cheer. One minute in he fires a hard shot on goal that Cannon has trouble with, but it’s cleared.

52′: Ianni slow to get up after a challenge with Salgado. He looks to be OK though. One minute later he makes a run forward and hammers a shot off the crossbar!

50′: Embarrassing stuff from Sounders FC.

47′: GOAL VANCOUVER! Salgado breaks through down the left and Boss is off his line very early. Salgado chips him, Ianni tries to clear but knocks it to Sanvezzo, who knocks it into an open net.

46′: And we’re off in the second half. Taylor Graham has been taken out. Zach Scott moved over to center back. Roger Levesque moved back to right back. David Estrada in an right midfield. Vancouver swapped goalies, Joe Cannon in for Nolly.

Halftime. Some stats: Shots–SEA 8-6. Shots on goal–VAN 4-3. Corner kicks–SEA 8-0. Saves–2-2. Fouls–VAN 5-2. Offsides–VAN 3-1.

Halftime. Vancouver leads 2-1. Lamar Neagle with a nice run at the end, but his cross was smothered by Nolly. Sounders FC getting back into it. Dominated the latter part of the half.

45′: GOAL SEATTLE! In a mad scramble in front of the net, the ball falls to Roger Levesque, who sneaks in a shot from a few yards out. Ianni and Scott credited with assists. Still 2-1 Whitecaps.

41′: Vancouver’s Alexandre Morfaw isn’t a fan favorite today. He’s on the turf getting treatment, but has gone down a couple times.

37′: Lamar Neagle has checked in. Fucito stretchered off to the locker room. Folk on Twitter say Arlo White is calling it a hip injury. We haven’t been told anything concrete yet.

35′: Mike Fucito is down. Levesque played him through on the right side and the young forward pulled up lame while sprinted after it. He’s on his feet on the sideline, which is a good sign.

31′: Another couple instances of porous defense. First Graham is beat by Sanvezzo, but the shot is wide. Then later no one closes on Sanvezzo and is hard shot is saved by Boss, to almost a sarcastic cheer by the restless, frustrated fans.

26′: Friberg easily the best player on the field for Seattle today.

23′: SAVE! Levesque open on the far post on a cross, but his shot is saved very well by Jay Nolly. Seattle turning it on now.

20′: MISS! Friberg curls in a beauty of a free kick, one that Tetteh earned, to an open Zach Scott in front of goal, but the header is hit right at Nolly. And cleared. Should’ve put that one away.

18′: Nizar Khalfan gets an unnecessary card for kicking the ball well after the whistle. For what it’s worth, he curled it nicely into the Sounders goal from distance.

12′: GOAL VANCOUVER! Wow… Another one of the softer goals you’ll ever see. Russell Teiburt looks like he mishit a cross too close to Terry Boss, but the Sounders FC goalkeeper bobbles it and it’s in the net. 2-0 Whitecaps.

10′: Yikes. Graham burned again by Salgado, has to tug on the youngster’s jersey to try and slow him down. Gets booked.

6′: GOAL VANCOUVER! Taylor Graham botches a clearance and it puts Omar Salgado, Vancouver’s No. 1 overall pick in the SuperDraft, clean on the goal. The tall forward finishes the breakaway calmly to give the Whitecaps a 1-0 lead.

3′: A quieter crowd today than Friday night. Not sure why.

1′: And we’re off! Zach Scott captaining the Sounders today. Greg Janicki with the armband for the Whitecaps.

Pregame: Sounded like Ianni, Levesque and Fucito got the biggest cheers in the introductions.

Pregame: The lineups just came out, so here you go. No real surprises for Seattle, if you’ve been following the blog or my tweets the last few days.

Welcome back to Starfire Stadium, my home away from home these days, it seems. The Cascadia Summit is coming to a close with a final game between Sounders FC and Whitecaps FC. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. and there will be online streaming on the team website.

Earlier in the day, the Sounders FC U-18 academy team beat Vancouver Whitecaps FC’s residency team 4-3. All seven goals were scored in a crazy second half in the span of about 30 minutes.

Seattle got goals from Jesse Klug, Glen Paden, Michael Steele and Darwin Jones, who had a stunning free kick in the 87th minute that proved to be the winner. Vancouer’s Doudou Toure, Coulton Jackson and Yasin Essa all scored for the Whitecaps.
