LIVE: Sounders FC v. Colorado Rapids, game thread

Final. Sounders FC 3, Colorado Rapids 1. Fredy Montero with two goals and an assist. Think they’re ready?

90′: Two minutes added time.

88′: Ianni came in for Hurtado, Zakuani with a right hip injury.

82′: Tetteh and Neagle in for Zakuani and Montero. Zak receiving treatment on the endline.

80′: It is dumping rain right now.

78′: GOAL SEATTLE! Montero gets behind the defense on a pass by White and calmly finishes past Ceus to make it 3-1 Sounders FC.

75′: Writing duties starting to take over. Noonan coming in for Fernandez.

71: Qwest Field attendance: 7,355.

Update on Brad Evans: it’s a right hamstring injury.

Amid a flurry of Colorado subs, Tyrone Marshall and Sanna Nyassi are in the game.

69′: Fernandez abuses someone on the right wing, couldn’t see who. Montero can’t touch the cross in and White is almost there for the rebound.

68′: Colorado sub. LaBauex in for Larentowicz.

67′: GOAL SEATTLE! Montero with the finish the far post in the 67th minute. Friberg with the assist.

64′: A couple Rapids subs. Nane and Akpan in for Mastroeni and Casey.

63′: GOAL COLORADO. Cummings earns a spot kick, Hurtado with the foul. Larentowicz puts it away to Keller’s left.

60′: GOAL SEATTLE! Montero fouled about 30 yards away from goal, takes the free kick himself and swings in a beauty to Hurtado, who powers a header home. 1-0 Sounders FC.

57′: Booking to Leo for a foul on Smith, I believe.

55′: Wynne ignites some Colorado offense with a deep run from his centerback position. Seattle’s D holds strong.

54′: Montero had some options on a cross, at least three guys were in the box, but the offering was too close to Ceus.

52′: Brad Evans not quite down, but needs treatment. He’s walking off to the sideline now. He comes off, Erik Friberg on.

50′: Riley with a nice cross, cleared to Evans, but his shot is blocked. Riley gets another chance at a cross, but Ceus grabs it.

47′: Nkufo catches Moor with a flying elbow trying to box out. Larentowicz gets in face after the foul. Nkufo incredulous at the call.

46′: We’re under way in the second half. No subs for Seattle. Colorado makes a change in goal. Steward Ceus in for Matt Pickens.

Halftime: Some stats. Shots–COL 6-3. Shots on goal–COL 4-1. Fouls–SEA 10-4. Offsides–SEA 2-1. Corner kicks–COL 2-1. Saves–SEA 4-1.

Halftime. Sounders FC 0, Colorado 0. I thought Seattle had the better of the early action, but the Rapids controlled more of the game at the end. Lots of saves, but not quality ones, required of Keller tonight. Brad Evans I think has been the best in green so far. More to come.

45’+: Hurtado called for a foul on Casey (looked like two big guys battling even to me) sets up a Rapids free kick from 25 yards. The shot is blocked by the wall and the half is over.

43′: Another great run by Evans creates something out of the nothing for Seattle, the final touch from Fernandez is gathered by Pickens.

40′: SAVE! Montero wins the ball from Larentowicz and times a pass perfectly to Nkufo on the breakaway. Pickens closes out well, however, and saves a goal with a nice stop.

38′: Brad Evans might be the best player on the field for the Sounders at the moment. Making a number of great runs.

37′: Yet another shot on goal for the Rapids, Larentowicz set up Cummings, but again Keller isn’t tested much.

32′: Another shot for Colorado. This one by Mastroeni, I believe, is right at Keller, but forces a save.

28′: Alonso not always the deepest lying CM. Evans, who is making runs forward as well, can sit back there in that holding spot. Parke has looked a little shaky on some clearances.

27′: Smith with a shot wide for the Rapids on a counterattack. It’s wide.

25′: Colorado with more of the game now. Earned another corner kick, but it’s cleared. Hurtado looking very strong so far.

22′: Lots of fouls being called against Seattle. Most of them right, but a few are interesting…

20′: Cummings wins a free kick after getting dragged by Jeff Parke 30 yards from goal. The Jamaican got away with a shove earlier, but the second foul was called. Larentowicz with a low driven shot smothered by Keller.

18′: Brad Evans whistled for a foul after winning the ball at midfield. Dreadful call. Great effort.

16′: The opposing teams’ chances again coming off the counterattack and Casey gets behind the defense again. Nearly chips Keller on the shot, but the veteran goalie races a few steps back to track it down.

15′: Gonzalez with a nice overlapping run, finds Montero in the box, but the Colombian makes one (maybe two) more moves than is necessary and doesn’t get a shot off.

14′: The Rapids earn a corner kick but Riley heads it clear on the near post. One set piece down…

11′: While Casey and Cummings are ever dangerous up top for Colorado, Seattle has been controlling most of the game. Sounders had a nice chance when Zakuani broke free and found Montero, but the pass back behind the defense was too close to Pickens. There might’ve been a foul on Montero there, but nothing was called.

9′: Conor Casey gets behind the defense for a breakaway, but his shot is saved expertly on a slide tackle but James Riley, who raced back to put out the fire.

8′: Nkufo lays off a nice pass to Zakuani, setting up a wide open shot, but it’s well off target. Not even close.

4′: Reminder that the broadcast will have intermittent coverage of the game. It’s a 50-50 split with season preview stuff, exactly like last year.

3′: Blaise Nkufo is offside but can’t run down a long ball behind the Colorado defender. He cursed the turf under his breath, I’m sure.

1′: And we’re off! Sounders going left to right at the start. It’s throwing me off (normally it’s opposite).

Pregame: Ex-Sounders Tyrone Marshall and Sanna Nyassi have been exchanged hugs with ex-mates before kickoff. Looks like Seattle is wearing the familiar green-blue-green combo. Colorado in red-white-red (or burgundy, whatever).

Pregame: Not a full crowd, but not awful for a midweek preseason game. Currently doing a little boom-boom-clap as the reserves walk out.

Pregame: Still no sign of rookie goalkeeper Bryan Meredith. Not in warmups. Not on the lineup sheet (posted below). I talked to a couple team spokesmen who said they aren’t exactly sure what his status is. I’ll track down an answer in postgame. Certainly looks possible that the team has made a decision on its three goalkeepers, with Kasey Keller, Terry Boss and Josh Ford all present and accounted for.
