Sounders FC coach Sigi Schmid quotes from Thursday

I went to Sounders FC practice today but missed the end to dash back to the office for an afternoon live chat (see the post below). Unfortunately I missed coach Sigi Schmid’s session with the media, but here are some quotes provided by the team. Updates on Brad Evans and Steve Zakuani after the jump.

* * *

(On academy players joining training…) “The benefits this year with the reserve league are that we can have academy kids play with our reserve team. Today was sort of more of an intrasquad so it was good to get some of those kids out here.”

(On the reserve league…) “The schedules are like the league sort of gave the teams a broad overview of try to schedule it in this week or that week so teams are individually scheduling games. We’ve got nine of our 10 games scheduled. We thought we had all 10 but there was a hiccup on one of the games. We are trying to solidify that so that hopefully by Monday we can say these are when we are playing our reserve league games. […] Our home games will be played at Starfire so we will have five at home and then we got five on the road. Sometimes it’s going to be piggy-backed to when we play one of the regular games. For example, when we play at San Jose our reserve team will play the next day at San Jose but often times the reserve game is going to be a standalone game. […] Probably more early week, could be a Monday evening, could be a Tuesday, could be a Monday afternoon. We’ll see. It’ll vary.”

(On Steve Zakuani and Brad Evans…) “Zakuani we don’t know yet and we’ll find out a little bit later. Evans was feeling much, much better today so that is good.”

(On Mike Fucito…) “His progress has been decent. He got on the bike a lot sooner than we thought he would get on the bike so we just have to see how it goes but it’s probably two-three weeks, probably end of this month, beginning of April.”

(On Brad Evans’ probability for Tuesday…) “We are definitely not ruling him out at this stage. He felt pretty good today.”
