Clarification on some of the questions in Sounders FC camp

As noted in the post below, Sounders FC announced the acquisitions or re-acquisitions of Miguel Montano and Josh Ford this morning. I know there are still some questions out there, so I’ll try to clear them up here.

* * *

The release says Montano was re-signed. Wasn’t he on loan?

Correct. Montano was on loan and he is on loan again. Seattle declined the option to purchase Montano’s rights after the first loan, but the team was able to work out another loan arrangement with Quilmes in Argentina to keep the talented 19-year-old with Sounders FC in 2011.

What’s the deal with Mauro Rosales? Is he going to be signed?

That’s the plan. Everything in negotiations has been agreed upon, but now it’s a matter of getting his International Transfer Certificate and a P-1 visa. He remains in camp and has looked good, it’s just been a matter of paperwork, which is sometimes a laborious process with foreign players.

We know Pat Noonan has his option coming up. Can he play Tuesday?

Yes he can. Noonan signed a one-year contract on March 31 with a team option. That means he’s eligible to play for the first three games of the year — Tuesday v. L.A., Saturday v. New York, next Friday v. Houston — before the team has to make a decision to exercise its option or renegotiate something.
