Miguel Montano re-signs, Josh Ford’s signing made official

montano ford.JPGSounders FC announced today that it has re-signed 19-year-old Miguel Montano (left) and signed supplemental draft pick Josh Ford (right).

The Ford move was expected. Coach Sigi Schmid said after Wednesday’s preseason game against Colorado that the UConn goalkeeper had won the job after a battle with Bryan Meredith.

Montano’s future was more in doubt after Seattle refused its option to buy the young Colombians rights from Argentinian club Quilmes after a one-year loan.

Some reaction from the press release.

Schmid on Montano: “We are pleased that Miguel is staying with us. He is a player who continues to show flashes of absolute brilliance and we are hoping that this season becomes a very consistent year for him.”

Schmid on Ford: “We felt good about both goalkeepers. Josh worked very hard. He’s got a strong mentality and he is a great shot stopper. He is very brave with what he does as a goalkeeper so we are very pleased to be able to sign him.”
